I always associate that number (and the woods bros, for that matter) with David Pearson

Glen “Fireball” Roberts !!

23

Roho Simms

#13 (again)

Fireball’s most famous #22 was the black and gold job that won the '500 in '62, fielded of course by Smokey Yunick, at that time with Pontiac backing.

While we are at it, Smokey’s Chevelle also deserves mention.

Paul Goldsmith drove a bunch of Smokey’s #13 cars, but Curtis Turner famously drove the Chevelle(s). Both excellent drivers.

We all are aware of Jeff Gordon and his #24 but how about Cecil Gordon with the same number #24. Also would be remiss if I didn’t mention the Racin Grandmother…Granny Tatro and her #24 NSS Late Model.

25

Larry Detjens

A body shop owner by trade, always had great looking cars.
Built and raced Dodge Challengers back in the day before Camaro’s and tube frame cars took over.
Very nice guy, would come to Elko for the big shows and to the MN State Fair.
He passed away after a bad wreck at Kaukauna in 1981.

#19 Harry Pullen. Made Big Mean E look like a creampuff. He would cross an infield to ensure that what goes around comes around RIGHT NOW.

Had at least one brother that raced, Henry.

Been a part of MN and WI stock car racing for nearly 50 years and from what I’ve read will be back again next season.

#20 Bobby Dawson

In the mid to late '60s Bobby ran a sharp '30s Chevy Sportman (with a six) that was later updated to a modified (with an 8) before the cutdown almost-sprint-car modifieds prevailed.

Bobby could run on the outside for 10 laps or more to get by a guy, smooth as silk, clean as the driven snow. Or so I recollect…

Also long time racer Don Keithly is running #20 this year, actually roman numeral “XX” in honor of an old racer that he knows.
