[B][I]ASA Late Model Series Southern Division Presented by GM Performance Parts Overall and Rookie of the Year Points Leader, Jeff Choquette continues to impress in his rookie season of ASALMS competition. The Loxahatchee, Florida driver has a solid points lead in both title chases and now heads to his home track for the one event that he’s had circled in his racing calendar all season long.
The Ninth Race of the 2007 Season in the ASALMS Southern Division is set for this Friday and Saturday October 5-6, 2007 at Choquette’s home track of the Desoto (FL) Super Speedway, located South of Tampa/St, Petersburg and near Sarasota in Bradenton, Florida for the running of the Seafest 100.
“I look forward to the Seafest being a really good weekend for us since it is my home track and I won the Super Late Model All American Challenge series there last year.” Stated a confident Choquette as his team prepares for the Seafest 100 and the first race reasonably close to his residence in Loxahatchee, Florida.
“This year we are trying to take it race by race. After the first two races, we were Eighth or Ninth in points, so hopefully we will go to the next three races and have good weekends.” Continued the 20-year-old Sunshine State Rookie.
Heading into the Seafest 100, the Ninth Race of the 2007 Season in the ASALMS Southern Division, Choquette leads both title chases by 90 markers over fellow Sunshine State freshman, Brandon Johnson and 123 points ahead of Beau Slocumb, his two closest competitors in the season long points chases.
As for his chances to retain both points leads for the remainder of the season, Choquette is optimistic; “My chances are just as good as anyone running in the Top Five in points.” He offered. “Everywhere we go Brandon Johnson, Beau Slocumb, and a couple others always run up front, so it’s hard to make up or keep the points you have without them having bad luck.” Explained Choquette.
So far in Eight ASALMS South events, Choquette has One Feature Win as he scored his first career ASALMS triumph in the South Georgia 125 Presented by McDonald’s Restaurants on September 14, 2007 at the South Georgia (GA) Motorsports Park.
Overall, the 20-year-old has recorded Four Top Five finishes, Five Top 10 showings and every event Choquette has participated in has been at least a Top 12 with his worse finish coming in the 2007 ASALMS Southern Division Season Opener at the Bronson (FL) Motor Speedway in Bronson, Florida back on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2007 where he finished 12th in his ASALMS debut.
In addition, the Loxahatchee, Florida has also picked up Two ARP Bodies/Aluminum Racing Products Fast Qualifier Awards with his first coming at the Orange County (NC) Speedway on August 11, 2007. Choquette’s second Fast Qualifier Award came during the North VS South Shootout/World Cup 200 at the I-70 (MO) Speedway on September 23, 2007.
“Our season has been going pretty good so far; having Two fast times and a win in the ASALMS South and Five fast times and Seven wins between mine and Dick Anderson’s Super Late Models.” Added Choquette.
“As of now, we plan on running the ASALMS Southern Division next year and we’ll be more prepared this upcoming season since we didn’t even decide to run the deal until Three weeks prior to the first race of the season this year.” He ended.
Choquette was the 2006 Hoosier Cup All-American Challenge Series Champion at the Desoto (FL) Super Speedway in Bradenton, Florida. His Third Straight Championship in the series held solely at the 0.375 Mile High-Banked Paved Oval in Southwestern Florida.
The 20-year-old Choquette began his racing career in Go-Karts at Eight Years Old. After four years in Karts he made the transition to Mini Stocks on the dirt tracks in Florida. A move up the ladder from Late Models to Super Late Models also on the dirt was next and his stats were impressive to say the least!
In 2002 as a 15-year-old, he won two Late Model Track Championships and backed that up by picking up the most Feature Wins during the 2003 season as a 16-year-old of all dirt Super Late Model drivers in Florida. Some of his major wins included the Fall Classic and the Fall Brawl titles both at the East Bay (FL) Speedway. He also picked up the end of the season Hard-Charger Award also at East Bay.
For the 2004 season, a 17-year-old Choquette switched to pavement and results were immediate. He would pick up wins in the 39th annual Governors Cup as well as winning his first All-American Challenge Series title at Desoto. Overall in his rookie year on pavement, Choquette racked up an impressive 25 Feature Wins!
In 2005, he was picked as a participant in the Roush Racing Gong Show and made it all the way to the Top 12 selections. Later that same season, the then 18-year-old won his Second All-American Challenge Series Championship in a row at Desoto.
Choquette’s magical 2005 season also saw him pick up major victories in during Florida Speedweeks in the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna (FL) Speedway where he won the Super Late Models title during the winter series. He also would later take home wins in the Pete Orr Memorial and the Riverfest 100 also at New Smyrna.
Outside of the ASALMS Southern Division, Choquette won two Features during the 2007 Florida Speedweeks at the New Smyrna (FL) Speedway and has two Feature wins in Desoto’s Hoosier Cup All-American Challenge Series.
