As much as I enjoy circle track I also love road racing. I have attended the rolex 24 hours at Daytona every year since 1985( I was 3) here is a link to some pictures that I took from Yesterdays test session. Now if they only had a class for modifieds because I would love to run the roadcourse at DIS http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z92/canedogs06/rolex%20test/
cool pics I will be there to. I work for freedom autosport (grand am series) you probobly saw the big green rig and motorhome with the eagle down the side we have the blue and geen mx-5 mazdas tom long, rhett odoski, derek whitis, and jim daniels are our drivers
drtracer9559 I will be at the Rolex from Thursday the 24 - Sunday the 27. I will have my campsite at Orange reserve #37 along the fence in between NASCAR turns 3 and 4.
I will stop by Thursday and introduce myself. Good looking cars and good luck to you all in the Koni challenge race.
I’ve been going to the Rolex 24 for about ten straight years now, but no more. Every year, the free ( not if you consider how much you have to pay for an infield pass to begin with) camping area for tents gets smaller and smaller every year and the security more and more difficult. I showed up last year about 6:00 a.m. like I always do and wasn’t allowed in and got routed around the perimeter of the track to four different entrances until I was allowed in the farthest from the tent area as possible. Guess what, all the punters that got there after me took all the good spots.
Screw DIS, I’ve grown tired of their continual shoddy treatment. I’ll get my sportscar fix at Sebring thank you very much.
Awsome pics.I agree with you 100 % about the dis security. the are allways clueless and gives you a hard time. Sebring is cool and so is the petit Lemans. The atmosphere is starting to get alot like sebring in the infield, alot of college kids and parties. I pay 300 for 2 4 day super tickets and a orange reserved spot along the fence of NASCARS turn 3 and 4. That allows us to camp inside from thursday-sunday. This year with a base 4 day super pass(85) you can camp any where in orange reserve except for the front two rows from thursday-sunday. after watching testing this years race is going be a great one. With so many great teams and super driver line ups a top 10 in dp, and gt let alone overall will be an accomplishment
Canedog, Thanks for the pixs. My son Dustin just got home from the speedway. He has been there since Thursday. I wanted to see pictures of the car he works on. Your very first picture was the car. The white Porsche # 34. You had a few others that were very good of the car also. So again, Thanks.
That got pits assigned for the 24 today and Carol will be glad to here that the team that my son works for, Orbit Racing, is pitting with Helio and Kyle.
Grand-Am testing at Daytona is the best-kept secret in motorsports – 10 bucks, and you can waltz in and hang with Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch, Montoya, Helio, Derek Bell, Scott Pruett, even Patrick Dempsey – security is relaxed, and the drivers are the most relaxed youll ever see them.
Saturday security was so relaxed we were able to drive our car to every viewing point along the infield, and ofcourse having garage access is allways a plus. south59 I will be rooting for orbit racing to take down the TRG and Farnbacher Loles bunch. This will be a great race
Canedogs, I’m glad you will be rooting for Orbit. You know we will be. They won it two years ago and maybe even more importantly is that the were 2nd over all. They were 2nd fastest in class on day one but fell off a little doing race runs the next two days and that was the back up car. The new 977 doesn’t even hit the track until next Thursday at Sebrings. Cross your fingers.
10-4 on that. Kyle still comes to the shop from time to time. He is good friends with Rodger(owner of Orbit). Kyle tells Dustin the door is always open. There is a Petty Craftmans Truck at Orbit. Last year during the Nascar Homestead race Jimmy Johnson was at the shop getting his seat fitted for him and his co-driver Jim Mathue(spelling). Their latest hotshoe Lawson Ackenbock(spelling) signed with Cadillac this year. Dustin is at Moroso right now with drivers that are getting in shape for the 24 in some shifter karts. Orbit have 3 drivers from across the pond for the 24.
9559, The Masda’s were flying at Daytona last week in Grand Am GT1. They are probably the ones to beat.
Just go an update from Moroso. Dustin is out there with Jim Matthews and John Pew. Two Prototype drivers. Also Johnny Mowlem and Mike Fitzgerald. Two of the Orbit drivers. These guys are big time!!
Yes i did see lawsons run in SWC and I was very impressed. The mazdas were very fast in testing the #15 Black forest motorsports car was the fastest in test days turning a 1.50 and change. But realiability has been the problem with the stangs. The GXP.R’s are fast but the mazda’s and the porsches pull them big time coming out of the bus stop chicane because of gran am adding weight to them. Orbit looked good in race trim and will be a major player in the race. As usual it will come down to who spends the least amount of time in the garage and who is still around come sunday morning. I cant wait for the 24 and then the week after that my 2nd season in modifieds starts at auburndale.
Ya, Lawson is awesome. He has been teaching Dustin how to turn right.lol Cadillac set Lawson up with a driving school that goes around the country. Dustin works for Lawson when he does the school. They just had one in December at Moroso. There is some good pixs on www.orbitracing.com.
I’ll bet that modified is a blast to drive on that bull ring. We love running at Auburndale. We have run WKA divisional karts, Fastrucks, and Fast LateModels there. We love that little track. The week befor the 24 Dustin is running his ASA late model at CCMP In the Pepsi 150 on Sunday. It will be a good show. Come and see it. Obviously he will be in the 59.
This weekend I think Dustin is running a street stock at New Hendry on Saturday. You have to keep these kid occupied. LOL
