On the track, Jeff Choquette was the man to beat, once again. And it came to no one’s surprise. He was just a bit quicker than Justin Drawdy, David Rogers and Scotty Crockett.
From speed51:
However, the biggest story invovled something that didn’t even happen on the track… sort of. Point leader Tim Russell, Ryan Sieg, Ricky Charmichael, BJ McLeod, Patrick Conrad and Justin Larson were all sitting on the hill, having missed the cutoff time to make it down to pit road before qualifying started. Officials told all the drivers they would be allowed to qualify, but would get only one lap, and the track would not be blown off before they started… a penalty for being late.
When the six cars pulled out onto the track though, all six drove around the track, weaving to warm up their tires instead of pulling straight down onto pit road, giving them an advantage over the rest of the field. Officials decided to DQ all six cars right away, and give them no time.
Jeez, why so harsh? Why not just make them start in the rear?
you ain’t heard nuthin yet. wait till you hear about the idiocy that went on in the last 10 laps of the truck race.
i’ll wait to comment until either the race results are posted or by noon Saturday. it’s possible they’ll try and fix it.
i will say this: Gary Palmer, the owner/promoter of Accord Speedway was at NSS tonight. he left before the Tour Mods ran, he couldn’t take any more. if he had stayed to see the truck race he would have lost his mind.
Masshole Bob was also there tonight. he saw the truck race and i doubt he’ll ever bother coming back unless Ron is running something there.
Lunacy. Let them race for it. The starter now decides the outcome?
From Speed 51-
Friday 10:55pm ET - Kevin Henry looked like he was going to win the Pro Truck race. Nope.
Scott Bishop looked like he was going to win the Pro Truck race. Nope.
Ricky Moxley looked like he was going to win the Pro Truck race. Nope.
In what was a wild race, the fourth-place Pro Truck of Logan Brodeau won the caution-filled (and black-flag filled) 25-lap Pro Truck feature event.
The race dominator of Henry was black-flaged late in the race for jumping the start, handing the lead to Bishop. Bishop was then black-flagged next for the same infractoin, handing the lead to Moxley. Moxley was then black-flagged on the one-lap dash to the finish for bringing the field down to the start too slowly, stacking the field up behind him.
The pace truck played a role in all this mess on starts and restarts. The late model race on night nine was an absolute joke of a start. The photographer had better clicked off some great shots of that start.Good thing there was not a tomato give away,we would have had a real mess.Oh well that is in the past now.
How can the pace car cause a wreck? It is up to the drivers on the front row to maintain some distance behind the pace car. They have to get it right by the time they get to turn 3, or they have a mess like the LM start on night 9.
if it slows down heading to the green flag. and don’t say it can’t happen, for whatever reason the FASCAR pace vehicle doesn’t do a very good job of maintaining a constant speed.
i’ve seen this myself from the front of the field at Orlando. it usually isn’t a problem for the start though.
The pace truck played a role in all this mess on starts and restarts.
the pace truck speeding up heading down the back stretch doesn’t “contribute to the mess” unless you’ve got an idiot in the tower who doesn’t know anything about racing or starts.
the pace truck should gain 10mph or more, so it can get off of turn 4 before the field comes through. the fact that it gained on the leader down the back stretch gives no indication on whether or not the leader is, in fact, speeding up or slowing down. you watch the field as a whole.
but none of that matters anyways.
the pole sitter leads the field to the start. the pace HE decides on is the pace that the field will start at. this massive retardation about trying to tell the leader when he can and cannot fire isn’t really anything but a way the Narone’s try to determine who the winner will be in the tower instead of on the track.
the embarrassing thing isn’t that the rule exists.
the embarrassing thing isn’t that it was so stupidly administered.
the embarrassing thing is that FASCAR made no effort to correct it even after the race when it was so clear that they had screwed the pooch.
they were thinking about it. i checked the posted results when i got home at 2am Saturday and they were showing Moxley as 4th place ( they kept their ‘decided’ winner ) evidently having bumped #1-3 all down one position.
that’s not the way it showed Sat afternoon though. and it wouldn’t have been the correct fix even if they had followed through on that. but it would have been something.
