[I]Burt Myers took a jump at the start and never looked back in winning the season opening “Tucson 200” at Winston Salems, Bowman Gray Stadium.
Myers of Walnut Cove picked up his 29th career victory at the quarter mile track.
“This was a good victory for us that may change our ways of thinking for this season” says a jubliant Myers.
Myers had thought about not competing for a championship run this season and just compete for the Whelen Southern Modified Championship. However this race could very well change all of that.
Pole sitter Tim Brown of Cana Va. challenged Myers in the late stages of the race and finished second.
Brian Loftin on a rare visit, came home third followed by Robert Jefferies and Jeremy Stoltz.
The new softer tire that the stadium came out with never really played a role in the outcome of the race.
More to come.
