Mike Herman is known as a jack of all trades. And all of that depends on what series your talking about.
Herman of Kannapolis NC know lots about race cars and the racing industry.
Herman competes in the Whelen Southern Modified Tour and at some weekly events at Bowman Gray Stadium as time permits.
Another job that Herman has is being a spotter for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Camping World East Series for driver Marc Davis. He also has been known to spot in the new Super Cup Stock Car Series.
And if thats not enough he gave up being pawnbroker in Kannapolis to pursue his lifelong passion for racing this past year.
Herman loves to drive fast and used to compete in the Hooters ProCup Series until leaving that series late last year to go modified racing.
He has had a passion for years to run at the historic track at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston Salem. His all time favorite driver was Pee Wee Jones who Herman still respects to this day.
“There is something in the traditions at Bowman Gray that makes me want to run there” says Herman.
Herman knows the mechanics of race cars and works on his own equipment most of the time.
So where does he place his priorities? “My main job is at Joe Gibbs Racing” he says. “Every thing else has to place second fiddle.”
And to go along with this, Herman has gotten sponsorship with Fireside Hearth and Home which has been with him for years even thru the changeover to the Modified Series.
Herman feels like he has a winning car on any given night at the Stadium. However the competition is as fierce as it gets when you compete at the tight quarter mile track that has been around since 1949. Bowman Gray has a long range of drivers that have made a name for themselves throughout the years.
Herman hopes to one day add his name in the hat of drivers like Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Junior Johnson and Richie Evans who have won at Bowman Gray.
