As you know, Jerry binner and I are working hard to plan the 2nd. annual Modified Reunion to take place at New Smyrna Speedway on February 13th. Last years event was a total success and it was more than memorable. This is a way to say thank you to all who pioneered the sport we love…our guests are incredible and they are all excited to have been asked to attend.
NSS is also excited and the new Race Director, Joe Lewandoski with track owner Robert Hart have also shown excitement and assured us the track will do everything they can to help us be even more successful!!!
Jack Smith was awesome last year. we got stuck without equipment we needed and he just happened to have a trunk full of goodies. This year Jack and REAL RACIN USA have told us they will provide a P.A. system, do a live broadcast and help us promote the event! When it comes to huge events like this you are lucky to have Jack aboard!
Many others have helped with different things. Scott Lombard of SUNSHINE RACING MAGAZINE offered us 4 ways so we can communicate without having to run all over the place. George and Rex helping with web sites etc.
We will be looking for some things and with all the thousands of people who read this board everyday maybe you can help us find them…(tents etc.)
If you know someone who was a racer, track owner, flagman, …anyone from the past who should be invited, please email me or jerry or both…
I would like to see more vintage cars… you should have seen them on the track last year!!! it was such an emotional experience seeing those guys, most in their 70’s, racing the old cars. The parade lap was led by Bobby Pendergast in his old coupe!! People brought photos and lots of memorabelia!
I hope you will all mark this date on your calendars and save up to come to the GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH! carolwicks@comcast.net jbinner@att.net
you can call me at 941-629-7451
all suggestions will be listened to!!!
Thank you so much !!!
Some of the list of guests…
Bugs Stevens, Leo Cleary, Gene Bergin, Bill Wimble, Ron Bouchard, Dutch Hoag, Tom Ormsby, Lew Boyd, Jerry Dostie, Mike Favulli, George Summers, Frank Capone, Billy Harmon, and many many more. I have also invited some of our more recent veterans in Florida short track racing… Dave Pletcher, Dickie Anderson, Jimmie Harris, LeRoy Porter, … the list goes on and on… Please email me and add to it. If possible with a phone number or at least a town or some way we can try to locate them…
ALSO !!! spread the word… thats always the best way… tell everyone you know !
I subscribe to Area Auto Racing News, which covers the weekly short track scene in the northeastern United States, and I think you guys should hit them up for some presenting sponsorship. I would try and do a swap of sponsorship of the event for X amount of Y sized ads in their paper. That way you’d get the fans coming down for speedweeks and the AARN column writers would most likely cover the event as well. AARN also has regular features on modified and sprint car drivers from years gone by and writers always plug reunion events.
I talked to Lenny last year, and he promised to stick my “press release” into the AARN. I don’t subscribe to that paper anymore (although I SHOULD… it’s a great one), and don’t know if the info was ever published.
I’ll make sure to get ahold of him again, and I like your “presenting sponsorship” idea.
Hey Jerry and Carol, there was a flagger at East Windsor and “old” New Eypt in N.J. by the name of Joe Hall. I heard that he now lives somewhere over by Daytona. I think he used to manage one of the tracks over that way. Joe also raced modifieds for some years in the Northeast. Also heard that Glenn Fitzcharles lives somewhere here in FLA. Yes, he also ran modifieds, even though he is know for his wins in URC sprint cars.
I will have the motor home with generator and such so you can set up shop under the awning if required. I still need a design for the dash plaques so they can be ordered so all get one. Jerry has been On 3wide and I am there almost every night so I will see what I can get going.
Joe Hall ran a modified at Flemington then picked up the flags. I will put a APB on him to day On 3 wide. I will also asked for a head count of transplants down to Florida so you can contact them.
98% chance that the Z8 WILL NOT be there unless I get it fixed. Bent up a little more than I thought. The MH, Wife and I will be there FOR SURE.
What else can I help with?
Joe Hall lead!
In Ernie Saxton’s column a few months back he mentioned that Joe was now living in Florida, in the Daytona area.? Driving a truck I believe.
OK Jerry Binner is working on the list for the 2nd annual Modified Reunion on 2/13/2009 at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida.
Who knows anyone that has transplanted down there so they can get an invite and a Bio can be done on them. Dirt, Pavement, Owner all are welcome.
Jerry and his VERY SMALL staff is working hard and you can help him out if you would.
ALSO who wants to come down and play that day at the track. How much seat time is unknown but I am sure that Jerry will fill you in.
