Its been said many times before , but can’t be repeated enough . A crate motor series should first of all rule on what a crate motor is . Stupid name really , any type of engine from any source is usually shipped in a crate . The name was meant to infer that the engines used would be fresh from the manufacturer , in this case GM , and then bolted into the cars and raced . If they meant to also include " blue printed engines " then the rules should have said so and we could drop the crate name , because a blue printed engine really doesn’t fit the concept of crate motor as it was intended . .
Engine builders should be dropped from the approved list when ever one of their engines is found to be illegal . Because either they were attempting to cheat , or they do sloppy work . Either way , they should be removed from the list . Any part or clearance in an engine that violates the rules comes down squarely on the head of the engine shop that worked on it . No matter what their motivation , the engine shop cheated up the motor .
I’ve watched Jeff race many times , and i have to say that even if he has the best equipment , and i’m sure he does , he can get it done behind the wheel .

you guys are good!maybeyou can get a tech man job,so all us fr0nt runners can slow down enuogh for all the LEGAL guys who would never cheat in any way can keep up!!hogan beat jeff at kenly this past weekend they pulled his mcgunnegill and said,it was LEGAL!!!can you belive it?jason is as good as they get any were we race so now I know why hes better, but what if he had that .015 of an inch?so I geuss o.j.is right all teams winning are just cheaters.so let the tare down party begin!!were leading the rookie points buy a little sittin thrid in the points, two races to go against’the best RACERS ina.s.a.[or that other word]so let the best tech man win!come and watch at c.c.m.p.next week, maybecolt james or jimmy will get tore down or maybe some body else can win[in the tech line]that sounds exciting for the fans.see ya jn tech.[I hope]

Todd McCreary, would you please explain the shift key and space bar to Mr. Knecht?

I was at the race in Hickory and though Jeff won it he wasn’t a runaway.

As the second place finisher (now winner) stated Jeff was faster through the corners on longer runs.

I was in turn 4 and it was easily noticable Jeff got back to the throttle quicker.

I can’t complain about stepping over the grey areas…i’ve done it myself and will again probably if i make my way back into the sport.

As i stated earlier in this thread (building) crate engines started when GM couldn’t keep up with rebuilds and tech and so series went to (approved) engine builders who could (blueprint) new engines and (rebuild) worn engines along with teching them.

So it will be what it is now because the engines don’t go back to GM for work.

my last statement is purely hearsay (assumtion) but from guys closely invoved and well recognised as engine specialists who say that last year they (tuned) a 604 crate engine in a dirt latemodel and chassis dyno’d at well over 500 hp at the rear wheels…that’s some serious tuning right there, and their driver still today is one of the hardest to beat all over the US, and hasn’t been called wrong in the last 2 seasons.

I’m to the point now if i can get to see a good field of cars that will race and not follow each other:smilie_bett:…i could care less what is under the hood.

Jason Boyd, I hope you aren’t reading this thread…

I’m to the point now if i can get to see a good field of cars that will race and not follow each other…i could care less what is under the hood.

Dirt Super Late Model have understood that a long time ago. If you cannot police it, what’s the need of ruling it…???

Andr?

Hey todd ,sense your the only one on here to put your real name, tell bonehead to get a life! Not all of us are perfect like who never he is in real life. Thats why I should know better then to try and talk on this board of gold members like him. He’s not worth the trouble.thanks.

Hey, that is Mr. Bonehead. Remember, I am a gold member.

And a recent winner at Orlando Speed World…and he passed tech!

Boo-yeah…

Yep…a weiner he surely is.
AND a GOLDen boy in Karnacland.

“so all us fr0nt runners can slow down enuogh for all the LEGAL guys who would never cheat in any way can keep up”
A
Dang…I didn’t say all the front runners were pushin’ the envelope…YOU did, Rick. I even gave you credit for saying so…have you changed your mind?
T
“so I geuss o.j.is right all teams winning are just cheaters.so let the tare down party begin!!”
T
I wrote that the guy who gets CAUGHT is a cheater. That’s C-A-U-G-H-T.
Not suspected.
And why is everyone afraid of getting torn down these days? I can’t remember a Triple Crown race or a Governor’s Cup or any of the big races when Trickle, Miller, or any of the big doggies came down and didn’t get their motors looked at after the race. Didn’t hear any of them whining about the big bad Tech Man making them prove they were legal. It’s a part of…well…it USED to be a part of what racing was all about. Nowadays people are afraid to get their palms dirty to prove they are right. They’d rather bitch about the track for picking on them.
T
What are people afraid of? They can assemble and setup a Late Model stock car but can’t pull a cylinder head off a “stock” configurated small block Chevrolet?
Please.

“maybecolt james or jimmy will get tore down or maybe some body else can win[in the tech line]that sounds exciting for the fans.”
O
Don’t like to see people lose by being illegal? Want to run an open comp series where it’s run what ya brung? Hate to have to do a little motor work yourself? (instead of paying Progressive or McGunigill to do it)
Then quit running a series that has effed up engine rules that have to be enforced because racers like to “PUSH IT”.
R
N
Okay…my name is Shawn Deaupe. Does that help? We’ve never met but since you needed a name to give substance to my posts…well, there ya go.
T
O

Osmosis Jones (psst…not my real name)
N

Want to run an open comp series where it’s run what ya brung?

Why not??? Would certainly take care of the engine BS.

Andr?

hey Rick…

ok… this thread has taken a different run than what you think…

It really isn’t about Jeff being dq’d. granted it started that way but… it is about an approved engine builder giving an illegal engine to a racer… none of us know what was said when the engine was picked up or what the builder was instructed to do with the engine…

so what we can determine with the information that has been given and is known is that the officials dq’d the car for an engine that did not meet specs… (i.e. illegal)… no matter if the engine is .0001 over or .015 it still did not meet the specs… and was illegal…

one of the problems with racing these days is that spec/crate/printed engines are being tweaked for an advantage. sometimes illegally… the reason that this style of engine was developed was to lower the cost of the sport, to make it a more level field, to more show a driver’s ability, and to keep the fans more interested in the race and to KEEP COMING BACK!!!

don’t take things so personally and think of it in a rational business manner…

coincidentally Boneman is a damn good guy… ask anyone or better yet ask him directly… if you ask he will tell you his name if you don’t know it…

and if you don’t like my terminology, call or email me direct as anyone can get ahold of me… continue reading…

ps… there is a reason for the nickname, if you would research or pay attention you would know that…

have a great night all…

O.J duane, I got It you ,must not go to the races much.so I’ll tell you why I dont do our motors I’m not on the builder list. Or I would. Im also ready to pull the motor when the tech guy wants it! Progessive motor,Its for sale too.so get off the computer and go watch some racing and you might be in a better mood. Not so cranky. all a.s.a south motors are legal this year so far,Including ours, they checked it again at N.S.you know ,I think the tech guy is the one I’ll listen to.Its nice to know your name duane ,Because I didnt research it, or pay attention . but Im done here, see ya.you guys got it from here.Turn left!!!

Hey Boneman. Get a life!

There Rick, Happy? His real name is Rex, and I am sure he was just being funny, hes a really nice guy. You shouldnt be so up tight, most of us are friends. We appreciate your comments and opinions.

Ed

Funny thing…

You know the funny thing is, statements were made, corrected, made again, corrected again, blah blah blah… And still some folks are getting way too uptight to understand that we are all here supporting short track and we all want Short track to stay around at least until I am long dead and gone…

Rick, you should understand that my statements to you were meant for you to understand the history of some of the things… And yes I would much rather be watching short track racing right now or working on a race car or it’s engine, then typing on this computer… But I can’t because that damn Pinks or speed pass or livin the low life or whatever those shows are called, crap is once again on the tv… Although the host on Livin is really very “Striking”… LOL…

I, like some of the members here, have been in and out of racing for many years and love it… No matter what, we are diehards, both fans and racers… I love the feel of the wheel on a track, asphalt or dirt (and no it doesn’t matter whether it be a strictly or a late model) or the satisfaction that I just flipped out a rearend or worked on an engine to make it into a better piece of machinery… Or looking at the body work that I just started trying to smooth out last weekends bumps and bruises…

So don’t take things so darn personal…

Just a couple of thoughts from a Race guy who has worked on and in this beloved sport in many different ways…

Hey Rex… No excuses this weekend right… OSW and NSS… LOL…

Have a great day all…

Rick… I’m willing to bet that OJ has driven, owned and worked on racecars longer than you have been alive.

And isn’t “Progressive Crate motor” an oxymoron? (You watch… I bet he thinks I’m insulting him with that term!). There should be Fords, GM’s and Dodge motors… not Progressive, McGunegill, Hamner, CRE or anything else. The word “Crate” infers that the FACTORY built that engine, and speed shops should not be allowed to increase the capabilities of those engines. Only to perform a common freshen-up… rings, bearings, valve guides, seals, oil pump, etc…

Striking? What, are you gay? She is freaking hot!

Speed channels programming has sucked lately. 2 wheel tuesday has to be the worst. I wish the busch east series and pro cup races were on in the evenings. Nobody wants to miss days of our lives to watch some race. I have to write Bonemans fat friend from Boston with the big mouth about this matter. He straighted Al Gore up.

Dang it…

Dang it Frass… Such an eloquent speaker you are… Such enchanting usage of those charming engine terms… ROFLMAO…

Sorry I couldn’t resist it… I am with you Frass… I really hope someone doesn’t get offended… And mind you with proper punctuation… Hey Todd… Give the man congrats… LMAO…

No I understand that she is “HOT” but I was trying to be politically correct… ROFLMAO Not me… Nope…

I built a Southern Modified for Moses when I was four…

Screw you Binner…I’m only 27.:ernaehrung004:

Yeah Rick…don’t take this stuff personally…if any of us had a fraction of the spare cash that most of those Playstation preteens have just laying around in their Daddy’s 3,000 sq. ft. garages and $400,000 tow rigs…then we’d be racing too and wouldn’t have the time to get on here and cause trouble.

Or as my good friend the Frassonator pointed out…some of us are just over the hill, neverwazzers who are so decrepit we can’t swing our legs through the window anymore.

So I wouldn’t worry ‘bout us. Keep on racin’ and good luck with the points and the Rookie of the Year deal…

And now that’s two Falstaff’s you owe me, Jerry…for being the brunt of your cruel references to my advanced age.
And I don’t care what that hooker said, not all bald guys look like undercover cops.

Naw…that’s not sticky criteria.
Now…if this thread could somehow sponsor a lap or two of the Trucker race or mention the UDLMS series somehow…well, then…
