Ok, it was one of those nights. Every race was caution filled. Even the antique car demonstration had two yellows. The tour modified race was excellent, although it took place 2 to 3 laps at a time. Oh well, every track has nights like this.
It even took three times to get the autograph session started! (kidding about this one)
But nothing was worse than the ASA type crate LM feature. They never went more than 2 laps of green and I bet they had 15 cautions. Mercifully, they threw the checker at the completion of 11 laps and after at least 1 1/2 hours.
Now I know what “crate” stands for: “cautions repeated, and time expired”.
I agree, it was terrible and it takes to long to clean up the mess. Might blame the wrecks on the full moon, and the slowness on the clean up on "Don’t give a #$#% for the paying fans. I guess if I were in a warm booth I wouldn’t worry about the cold either. NSS has gotten the last of my money for a long time. And yes, the modified race was very good. One of the best I’ve seen in a long time. billy
For once I saw a purpose in the crate late models. We weren’t done putting in a new master cylinder in our car so their unbelievably long race gave us more than enough time to get everything together again, not that it really mattered anyway…
Possibly worse than the mercy ending of the crate late model race was the end of the SK Modified race. I was standing at the back gate with HaudFan waiting to get across the track when those three cars ran into each other. Looked to me like the blue #17 (i think that was the number) wasn’t paying attention to the slowing cars and got all out of shape looped around and it was “game on” at that point.
And I was once again shocked to see how long it took track workers to tend to accidents. In the TBARA race, the three car pileup in turn three, I counted two laps of caution before all of the drivers were visited by someone. And Sunday night we had a driver laying on the track after getting pulled from the car, and they don’t throw a red flag? Really?
Not to mention the Tour Modified that looped in four, was pointed the wrong way down on the bottom and the whole pack came zooming past him…
I’m with Billy, NSS just doesn’t get it! Its not a question of dirt versus asphalt. Its a question of good management & decision making versus what we saw last night.
The joke between Tripper and me was how many track officials does it take to remove one sprinter from the track at NSS? We stopped counting at 10.
Pit Admission $30
6 hours of my life gone
1 cold chicken and fries from the concession stand $5.50
Not having to worry about going back to NSS - PRICELESS
NO, I won’t lighten up. Drivers and fans should have a reasonable expectation for a safe, clean show. When you, Billy, Tripper or whoever buys a ticket they have entered into a contract with the track to be entertained, with decent food at decent prices, clean facilities and professional safety measures. Were YOU truly entertained and satisfied with your experience last night? If you were sitting in one of those wrecked racecars last night, would you have been happy with the response time? This is supposed to be “The WORLD SERIES of Asphalt” racing. Napcar didn’t get to where its at by having one souvenior trailer in the midway and leaving wrecked racecars sitting on the racetrack.
I understand drivers have off nights. But a business, especially a racetrack can’t afford an off night because fans & drivers won’t come back…Let’s face it, one bad night is fixable. Two bad nights (what I saw) is becoming a pattern. And from what I’ve read Friday wasn’t so hot either with safety & clean up. So now you have a trend that they aren’t learning from mistakes. It just seems to me that NSS would rather be an average track than a model for other tracks to immulate.
I liked the late model & sprint races on Sunday. I even liked the tour modified & sprint races on Monday…I’m sure I’ll be back at NSS at some point but right now I have a bad taste in my mouth from what I’ve seen in customer service.
