A Better Question is?????

You named the tracks left in Florida but what track do you miss the most that is gone now???

I miss USA International for sure and Hileah although I was never able to go to Hialeah but did do some writing for them a few times. But what track do you miss the most???

Remember, support your local track because tomorrow it may NOT BE THERE.

Let’s go racin!!!

I know I will miss Jacksonvill Raceway.

with out a doubt St.Augustine asphalt, and Volusia speedway park 3/8 asphalt tracks. those were some of my favorite tracks to race at.

track i miss the most

:frowning: th track i miss the most is thundercross . and the one i miss now is hendry county still waiting for word on when they will open back up th e web site says april but no date as of yet as soon as i hear i will post it and yes support your local tacks as much as you can in these hard times . hope to see ya all soon :auto003:

Lakeland, St Augustine, and I used to enjoy watching the drunk rednecks at Orange county speedway.

St Augustine - dirt (great WoO races)
Jax Raceway - dirt
Orange County - dirt

Wish Sand Mountain could have made it.

I got to Jacksonville once and Thundercross once. However I did go to St. Augustine a number of times and did a few Florida Pro races from Volusia’s asphalt back then. It is so sad to see any track gone but when it is your home track, you must be just broken hearted.

Support your local track - it is SO IMPORTANT today.

Without a Doubt Sunshine Speedway!

Reallly miss Golden Gate Speedway, GREAT racing with Late Models, Tornado’s,and Figure Eight’s on Friday night and Sprints, Early Models, and Bombers on Saturday nights. I also miss Saturday nights at Sunshine Speedway sitting with… ‘the trash in turn four’… now you know the origin of my moniker.

I miss Jax Raceways. The place was a dump and the car count could really be bad sometimes, but I never saw a bad race there – or a bad fight, for that matter.

On a larger scale, I miss Rockingham like crazy, but driving that far for an ARCA race seems a little crazy.

Lakeland

was the best track around… ;-( i really miss going there. never know who you would run into! great people, clean, and professionally run.
OZZIE

I second Hialeah, you never realize how much you miss a track until it is gone and you have to drive over 2 hours to go see an asphalt race and an hour or more to go see a dirt race.

I always ran into great people to talk with there and could afford to go everyweek to it… It is missed…

They have both been gone a long time but I miss Ft. Pierce (Treasure Coast). It was only a mile from my house. I also miss Palm Beach that was a great track much better than that ampitheatre that is there now.

I probably miss West Palm the most. Great racing and it attracted the locals as well as the big names. Of course Hialeah where I toiled for 30+ years and my first speedway - Eau Gallie/Melbourne/Brevard County - where it all began for me in the summer of 1957.

Marty Little

I am sorry I missed Eau Gallie Marty. Going to those two reunions that Lou White did was great and learning about how great Eau Gallie was was alot of fun for me. I met so many wonderful people that went to Eau Gallie and they had such wonderful memories. I am sure when they were racing there that they never thought it would not be there but even then, tracks were not worth what they should be. You got to support them to keep them alive.

See ya soon

Only 2

Only 2 people miss Sunshine Speedway. I figured this question would get those Bring Back The Track people on here. I still have not heard which org. recieved the profits. OK, I miss it also, now there is 3 of us.

I miss Sunshine, The old one, when Leo owned it and Dan Jones ran it. I know it was a long time ago and everything has changed. It was a lot of fun to start 15th - 20 something, pass 10-15 cars and maybe finish in the top 5. With very little sponsor money and doing all the work yourself, the purse money was enough to do it again the following week. none of us knew how good we had it!

You’d Never Guess Says OSF

Yea, that’s right, you’d never guess what track I miss the most.

Clue: Kenny’s right about what he said… and if it reopened tonight with races at 7pm, it would NEVER be the same SSS… NEVER-EVER-EVER…

Those were the days and I guess we didn’t realize what we had when we had it…SSS was one of a kind… never was one like it, never will be one like it…

I wish Travis Cope (Kid Cope) could have raced there before it was sold.

Gone, but never forgotten (bet you thought that was only for people that died huh?)

Lots of them

As a promoter for a travling show in Florida I miss Jax and a great relationship with Roger and Larry. St Augustine as dirt again always nice to my guys and treated them fair. Dead Lakes, a long tow but aging the drivers where happy to go and got taken care of. Not on Florida but Valdosta was great to us during the speed weeks show we put on.
The track is not gone but in it’s OLD configuration Palatka always gave us enough dates to make a season.
As a watcher, not a doer

  1. Jax
  2. OLD Lakland 1/4 mile
  3. Golden Gate
  4. Tampa Fairgrounds
  5. St Augustine as dirt (Nascar killed that track)
  6. Volusia as a paved 5/8 for IMSA Super modifieds.
  7. Volusia short track dirt. The mini sprint shows where great there.
I moved to Florida in 1970 and the list of Northern tracks would take an hour to type. :ernaehrung004:
THe Modified Reunion that is being held does a LOT to make things better for us transplants. :ernaehrung004:

Desoto without the “SUPER” Speedway. That used to be one hell of a track…Sara Mana was a good one too.
