Is it time to bring back the engine claim rule for modifieds? The class is strong once again, so would it be beneficial to have the rule reinstated? Any suggestions on prices and penalties?
I dont beleive a claimer rule is needed at auburndale. I race the #06 mod at Auburndale. We run a cast iron vortec head motor. It was built to the old SARA latemodle 2brl carb specs and when we hit the set up right we are as fast as anyone at A-dale. Most of the mods at a-dale allready have more Hp than the 8 inch treaded slicks can handle on a 1/4 mile. At the bigger tracks ilike newsmyrna I could see where a claim rule would help level the playing field. See you on June 6th

leave modifieds alone not broke don’t mess with it
the creame is all ways going to rise to the top so now you want to punish the ones thatare winning ,
get your car to go tru corner get your foot off brakes and mash that go pedal the cars have eight inch tires on them how much horse power can you get to hook up to the ground
trust me you can’t take any body and put them in a modified and have them go out on the track and slam the pedal down and go fast the guys that are winning are smooth and easy they work on there cars and under stand them if you ain’twinning and you ain’t happy sell your car get a street stock or 4cycl cause it your car ain’t working now when you buy some one motor and put it in your car it still ain’t gonna work
you could take 20 shopping carts in a parking lot take same drivers make a circle line carts up put robbie cooper newman boy wayne jefferson all citrus hot dogs punta gorda hot dogs and auburndale hot dogs keith lilley von pope and you would still get out run you gotta want to win worse than the guy behind you then when he out runs you are you gonna want to make him take a wheel off his cart you want to win cooper had his car for sale last year why did’nt you buy whole car
I’m sure there is a few that would like to see it but I not sure if it would be a good thing or not. I think the best thing going for the modifieds right now is the treaded tires. You keep them on the cars and you’ve even up the field without doing anything else now you put it back in the drivers hands and setting up the car. Your also saving the racer a lot of money.
Who of the very rich are close to the top runners now,but are getting beat by guys that build there own?cus that rich guy would love a claim rule ,means he can aford to cheet and loss it for $500 if it gets claimed ,vs the low buck guy that can’t loss his. Claim rules mean the rich win and the poor loss. Beside the fact that $500 can’t buy a junkyard motor anymore.
There is a thing call tech that should keep it strait, but offten not done enough.:grinser010:
if you got 25 modifieds ever were you go what is the problem the same guy ain’t winning all the races and if you know any thing about racing watch the guy winning
watch him get tru the corners watch him get out of corner when you get your car working at auburn dale - and citrus = and charlotte county i don’t know any thing about orlando can’t race on friday on small tracks with 8 inch tires most all cars are within , 258 thousands of second of each other if you want to see a field of five or six modifieds start messing with rules leave em alone seven lbs per cubic inch no problem if you can’t keep up or afford to race that class get another class
I am glad to see the responses to this post. As far as changing rules to just be changing them, I am not one for that. I am though for whatever is best for the class. It seems to be very clear that the the people that have responded so far are not in favor of the claim rule. I never mentioned how much I thought the claim should be, however the spirit of the rule is not how much you can build an engine for, but how much are you willing to sell it for and to keep the playing field level. Someone mentioned tech on the modifieds; if the engine rule is 7 lbs per cubic inch, tech is very limited. I have no problem with this, but some cars that I have checked in the past when asked to P & G, they didn’t even want to do that. As far as racing in a class you CAN afford, most racers race at least a little above their financial means. The last thing I want to do is lose any car count we have gained, this was just a simple question.
I find it funny that a certain driver keeps bringing up the treaded tires. You dont see him supporting the track every week. I think if you are not a regular supporter keep your mouth shut!!!
bdbob… are you a SUPPORTER? just what is it you support? i guess not everyone is a Reutimann fan but why the vicious attacks? he had a respectable finish & he didnt wreck anyone… jimmy did have a heck of a good race… TONY TOO! rofl
please say something nice before i have a nervous breakdown!!! hahahaha
what would you have done different than David today?
OZZIE
the open wheel modifieds are a great class we have not been racing them long end of last year and part of this year and each week our car gets little better
you can spend some money on them and they are lot of fun also don’t seem to be any junk in that class most of drivers are also good clean drivers that will help you do any thing and you can ask them any thing don’t beat on them they won’t beat on you
but you can’t leave them sitting on jack stands all week load them up and bring them to track start in back and go to front then when you get out run say oh my god geezee he must have 25,000 progressive motor or ziegler . motor or he bought crate motor and sent it off had it worked on
if thats the case lets start a real class of open wheels 10 inch tires big rotors and brakes no motor rule want to see some people in stands ain’t that what racing is about going fast wouldn’t like to see some open wheels at auburn dale on 10 inch tires running like sprint cars
next you are gonna say ain’t safe open wheels got more protection than sprint cars

ummm, last year he and a bunch of the other mod racers got together and got the track to put them on treaded tires.
less than a month after they made the change, the track changed tire brands and put the mods back on slicks, going directly against what the racers in the class had asked for.
i’d say it was the track that wasn’t supporting the racer, not the other way around.
Todd how many races did he race with the treaded tires? how long did the mods run on treaeded tires?looks to me like it has not been an issue this year. They have been the show this year with the slick tires. I know they have had a better car count… Guess you cant argue with god (Todd the know it all)…
Todd how many races did he race with the treaded tires?
do you not read at all? they were on treads for less than a month and a half in the middle of the season.
if you want to compare car counts, you’re comparing a Goodyear slick season ( 07 ) to a Hoosier slick season ( 09 ) and '08 is half and half. you have no idea what a treaded tire would or would not have done.
