Florida Taxes

First some of us are getting totally screwed over on our property taxes. Example, my neighbors house is valued 100K over mine but their property taxes are $2500 less a year. WTF Florida, but this is old news.

Today I went to register a new horse trailer at the tag agency and while I was there I decided to renew the tag on my truck and open trailer which is due in Nov. The registration on my 2004 Dodge ram 2500 went up from $87 a year to $129 and my open trailer went up from $23 a year to $46. How in the F…K is this legal and who imposed these increases? I would like to personally sit down and talk to the limp wristed, pencil dick that came up with this bright idea to make such a drastic increase in vehicle registration renewals when money is already tight for alot of people.

The gentleman at the tag agency was really nice and seemed sincere when he said that he felt horrible for having to collect the new fees from everyone. He also told me to look around and see how much money is being wasted doing BS work on our roadways.

Does anybody know where to look to see who proposed these increases? Is the governors office a good place to start?

This is racing related because everyone of us has to get our cars to the track one way or another.

i thought pretty much everyone was aware that Fla License and Registration fees were going to skyrocket on Sept 1st?

a lot of stuff for regular drivers went up 60% or more. CDL went up as well, but not nearly so much.

drive west of Vero on Fla 60. look at all the landscaping and trees, all the way from I-95 to the Turnpike.

i’ma like to get me a job as a tree nursery owner. especially at the rate that palm trees wind up falling over dead.

anyways, that’s small news. until they take that +$1 BILLION dollar bid for sugar plantation land south of Okeechobee off of the table, no one in state .gov is serious about the budget issue.

Well…

This is part of the CHANGE some people voted for. Less Gov. money to the states, so the states have to make it up somewhere.:sprachlos020:
-JIM-

I pay all of those plus vehicle inspection and STATE income tax that i get 6% refunded at the end of the year.

And my taxes are going up this year too…

The sugar deal and fee increases all Crist’s doings.:frowning:

Yea, everyone knew about this. In fact our (Polk County) tax collector told us to get them ahead of time to beat the raise in cost.

I guess

this is what happens when you only what to talk about racing, not how much its going to cost you to get there. Now we know WWOD and WWC(Charlie)D. Wait until you have to start paying for Racing Only Healthcare. Do you think Obama is going to allow his healthcare cover racing injuries and eating track foods.

“Is the governors office a good place to start?”

Where the FK you been son? Under a rock somewhere.

For over a month people been bitchin about the tag registration UP CHARGES…and YEA, Charlies Office is a great place to start… they needed money and HE ok’d this UP CHARGE because it didn’t need any other authorization and/or vote.

HOWEVER, there is some talk about getting this UP CHARGE changed and letting people get their money back (fat chance of that happening).

I hope everyone is keeping track of who is in office when this crap occurs and takes that little slip of paper inside the voting booth with them.

And would someone please contact EDM each evening and verbally let him know what the hell is going on in the news… we all have to take a part in his daily life - you know the ole saying… it takes a Village to raise an idiot (or something like that)
Where the FK you been son? Under a rock somewhere.
You can call it that

I didn’t realize HOW MUCH the increase was until it happened to me. This totally screws us because we own 5 trailers 2 trucks and a car. Thats a pretty good chunk of change.
HOWEVER, there is some talk about getting this UP CHARGE changed and letting people get their money back (fat chance of that happening).
Have you ever tried to get money BACK from the government? Its like getting a pork chop from a pit bull after they stuck it in their mouth.

Yes please, but please do so in the form of short e-mails with lots of pictures.

How many millions were wasted on that bridge in Orlando to make it look like a suspension bridge rather then just the minimum repairs it needed?

Disclaimer: This is not meant to be a political bashing thread or post of any kind so please don’t start that shit here. Democrat or Republican this pisses me off.

agreed.

neither Charlie Crist nor Jeb Bush exactly covered themselves with glory.

I’m sure its not intentional, but it sounds like a lot of you think because w “knew these taxes were going up” that it makes it right! This has nothing to do with racing but I don’t care. My boat registrations went sky high, fishing licenses went up.A portion of every penny we spend on ANYTHING fishing or boating related is supposed to go into boat ramps and facilities so we can get on the water and we STILL almost have to fight to get the “priveledge” to launch a boat in New Smyrna. I cosidered buying a race car a couple yrs. ago but decided I could save $ by buying a boat instead. Now I think BOTH are a waste of $!! My point, its the way it is, pay more for less so the welfare system… never mind, I’m wasting my breath!!

It may not be racing related per say but it directly affects racing. It cost me almost another $70 a year to keep my truck and trailer on the road. God only knows what my enclosed trailer is gonna go up too.

but it sounds like a lot of you think because w “knew these taxes were going up” that it makes it right!

the fee increases are “right” to the extent that Florida has to meet it’s financial obligations. i was merely surprised that Ed got caught out by this. it’s been in the newspaper and on all of the local news shows around here.

you want to get into a debate about which parts of the state budget ( i’d go for the DNR and Education departments and the $1 billion dollar US Sugar deal although that’s really just another DNR initiative ) should be gutted in order to help balance against tax and fee increases, you could fill an entire forum with that.

i thought the DOT fee increases were mostly pointless because most people were going in 1-3 months early and renewing their licenses and tags. Fla moved a lot of fee collection forward, there’s going to be a huge drop off here for the next couple of months at the new rates and then around December you’ll see what the actual impact is going to be as people start taking trailers and vehicles off of the road rather than replating them. how big will the final impact be? i don’t pretend to know.

will there be a net increase in fees collected? in this economic climate? that might be optimistic. i bet a bunch of RV’s and 2nd/3rd vehicles are going to wind up getting parked.

You want to see something which will throw you off your chair, go check this, this is how it costs to plate a high risks motorcycle in Qu?bec…

http://www.saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/vehicle_registration/comparative/high_risk.php

And it will almost double for 2010. If you browse through that site, you’ll see how expensive it is here to plate cars & bikes.

Yea but you have “FREE” health insurance don’t you?

oooooooh, that’s harsh. brew-tall, even. :grinser010:

Yes, kinda. The first number, on that list, 900$+ is for that FREE health care insurance.

Somebody forgot what FREE meant when they instated that FREE health insurance system long time ago here. It’s should be called, ‘‘available health care for everybody’’, but definitetly not ‘‘FREE’’.

But the way it works here, it’s a good thing.

Look at Martin Luther King in Daytona area Thousands and thousands spent cleaning it up, and MOST there don’t even work!!
Far as property taxes go, my neighbors house is valued prob. 10,000-20,000 more than mine, his taxes 1000-1500 less. Why? He’s been there for ever, has been homestead exempted all those yrs. This is what MOST people dont know, or do know but won’t tell you, (Realtors) The FIRST yr you buy a house you can NOT get Homestead Exemption, this leaves the window open for the city to Re-Evaluate the propert and base taxes on thatfigure. AFTER that, if exempted they can only raise the taxes 5% per yr. Another form of BS. Hence, 2 houses next to each othet, equal value, one owned 20 yrs, the other 2 yrs, the taxes can be over $1000 differant. And I was dumb enough to think taxes were based on the amount an individual costs the city for public services. Exemption sounds GREAT until YOU’RE the one buying. Again, 1st yr in mt house the taxes were $4200, neighbors was $1800!!
