Bowman Grey Stadium

To compare what they have …

Imagine the Citrus Bowl having a race track around the football field. That is what it is. It lies in the heart of Winston Salem which is no small town. It’'s the home of Wake Forest College. I mean downtown! Every track we had like this has been closed down due to local ordinance. It is unbelievable and totally respectable that it remains open.

You are so correct, I was amazed when driving to Bowman and saw it was in the middle of everything… crowd was amazing…(and it was a regular Sat night race - nothing special)…place was packed - those people love racing and the place was rocking with excitment… not alot of passing…but I sure enjoyed it (several times)…VERY TIGHT TRACK…I’d go back in a second if I am ever in the area again…they only race there several months (when they don’t have football going on).

That was one of the tracks that Dumont Smith ran reguulally prior to his move to Fla.

Bowman Grey is an awesome place to go see racing… It necessarily “Monster” names that bring people, it is the place and the oomph that the drivers and the promoters put into the show that makes it so awesome…

I have been to many races there when I consulted several businesses and always found it awesome…

Here’s something interesting…

Notice some of the names Dumont Smith, Glenn Wood, Curtis Turner, and Tim and Fonty Flock.

Also Ralphie “The Racer” Ligouri, and Herschell McGriff. I think they both still turn a few laps to this day!

Ralph Ligouri. must of been before he moved to Florida.

we need more nicknames!

Shorty, Pee Wee, Toots, Red, Fuzzy…

The Coke advert on page two of the program would have a VERY different meaning back in England. The guy making that gesture could probably get arrested for that…
