Just a thought for Drivers/Owners

There are problems that need to be worked out between the drivers and track owners. In being at CCMP I did learn that it takes both the track and the drivers to make a great show. The problem is that you can?t have the attitude ?well its my way or else this attitude doesn?t work well.? If the track owners don?t have the drivers come to the track there is no show to put on but then again you?ve got to have the track owner want to do this also so work together as one great team.

I hear ?well it?s the hard times, people are not spending money?. I was at Old Town a couple weeks ago there were about 1500 people there. My office is by Hard Rock Caf? here in Tampa and the place is packed every day so people are spending money in different ways that are maybe a bit cheaper or they are getting something back.

Track owners need to understand that they need the entertainers (the drivers) to make money and have a great race track with good car count. It?s not what they can do for you its what you can do together.

Do not think we need a union but I think if the drivers got a representative to set up a Florida Racing Association for all classes. Having an Association you would have a board made up of 5 to 7 people for the Association that can talk to track when problem come about for better racing. I think this would band drivers and track owners better together in the long run for great racing in Florida.

The Association can have its own points and points fund also if planned out proper.

Drivers lets hear your thoughts on this idea.

Where to start? In the big picture, I think it would create a great deal of strife and dissention among the drivers. Remember the analogy that leading racers is like herding cats? If you want problems, ask racers to help you. If you want big problems, tell them it is for the “common good”.

Next, the tracks would certainly not recognize it or play along. If I was a track owner, I wouldn’t. Racing is an individual sport. I am very independent and no one can speak for me or represent me.

As a car owner/driver, I have a very small voice, but it is my own. If I don’t like what is going on, I can drive down the road and try someplace else. It does not give direct results quickly, but sooner or later, good managers will notice the trend and try to reverse it.
