USAR Procup race

Just saw on Speed 51 that the USAR Procup Series (Hooters) will be back at NSS in March.
I honestly have not really followed it much since it lost the TV coverage. But there is always good racing in that series.

It’s a real shame that the coverage dropped off the map. I used to follow this series very closely and saw most of the races in person at Lakeland and SGMP. I wonder if they’ll ever get the TV coverage back.

Their fields have shrunk to 18-22 cars per race and the sponsorship money they used to have has pretty much dried up… I can remember some of the old races at USA Intl where 10-12 cars would get sent home…

there fields have dropped off because of the cost to run they raise the price on tires plus they lowered the purse but did not cut the entry fee. And they we’re also trying to go with an engine lease program.

This series almost died off with the death of Bob Brooks, the CEO of Hooters. This series was HIS baby, and his family didn’t have the attachment to it that Bob did. Hooters PAID to have that series on TV, and his heirs, I guess, didn’t see the value of keeping that going. Unless someone (maybe Lucas Oil) comes along with the TV money, this series (or pretty much any other… excepting Nascar) is NOT gonna get on TV.

Otherwise, I have seen some absolutely GREAT races in this series. Anyone remember Derrick Kelley coming from 2 laps down to win a photo finish over David Pletcher Jr.?

rumor has it that they are getting ready to annouce a big sponsor that’s the rumor

Jimmy Wilson has worked very hard to keep the series going, with new owners !

Jimmy has done a good job and they are working to allow, old nationwide and also K&N cars to run with them. New motor deals coming to make it more affordable etc. He is going full tilt right now, I am working with him a bit on the March event at New Smyrna, more on that to come. They will be at PRI stop by and see old Jimmy at their booth.

I have to give the credit they did take Iowa away great move

I saw them when they came to South Boston earlier this year, like 15 cars, it was pitiful compared to what it used to be. I remember 60 cars at Lakeland a few times. I hope it survives but I don’t see it happening.

I am not sure what their rules are now for cars but if they would let old busch cars race there are probably hundreds of them now available being that the nationwide series is going to the a new car next year.
someone should be able to get a couple of cars pretty cheap now.

the ex nationwide cars would be good that’s what most of the chassises are just with a fiber glass body on it and the South Boston race depends on witch on you we’re the june or oct. race June they had 15 competive cars and 5 or 6 start in park heck Bigley racing had 2 cars running the full race untill Dylan’s car started to over heat. I did have fun at South Boston there wth Bigley Motorsports

Jerry I was there when Derrick came back from 2 laps down, it was one of the most spectactular runs I have ever seen in all my years of watching racing. I wrote the race report for that run I will try and dig it up…

The TBARA will be there with them as well.

So if the TBARA is the undercard, I guess the slower cars are the main event.
