Hot or Cold?

if you owned a race track would you close in Dec. to Feb. or from July to Sept?
and why?
carol aka oz

July to Sept. Why? because I’d want fans in the stands. In the summer the population is what 1/2 -2/3 that of the winter? No one is here in the winter. THEN Plus rain, NORNALLY when is the rainy season? Races do not happen in the rain. How many times did Orlando get rained out last summer? People won’t plan ahead,to go to the raices,“It’s gonna rain out anyhow”

i am with ya on that close in the summer stay open through the winter less rain and cars run better cooler, i would rather put on a jacket or coat than hold up a umbrella untill they call a rain out

the way i saw it

Its sat at 5:00. Hey leets go to the track. Look at the weather.
what are we going to do?

1 my brother is racing (going)
2 It might stop raining ( might go )
3 the sun is going down and it might cool of (might go)
4 its 50 out side and it not going to get lot scolder (not going)

ITS NOT AS COLD SOUTH OF TAMPA BUT THATS HOW WE THOUGH
Dan Jones said dont brake there bank 40 weeks .
Clide Hart said 52 weeks a year
Billy Martino said 10 big races one a month
Who was right??

Carol, we have talked about this many times on here before. And it’s always the same. CLOSE in the summer and run in the winter period! And we’re talking June to Sept. And for me the other reason is people should have time away from the track. It’s called having a vaction. Unless your class is racing every other weekend you get no time off from mid Feb. till the end of Nov. Summer time is when kids are out of school. And then is when the family needs to get away and spend quality time together. And unlike what some think you don’t get that having them with you in the pits of a race track most every weekend of the year.

what do i think?

am in total agreement with all of you…
its so much easier to warm up than to cool off. the summer months are brutal. the rain is definitely a factor.
ppl go to football games in droves. fill the bleachers at hundreds of fields in SNOW!
i say we let the yanks spend some money down here while they visit. they only have a few months racing up there. we have it TOOOOOO much! i say racers get a break to go boating and fishing…
don…i never know what the heck you are saying. you have a language of your own. but i still luv ya
rick… i know we have talked about it many times. there are always new people coming on here. we cant let it go stale. and kids get older and more interested. have to keep the info highway open. and you are also right about the kids. little kids in 90 degree noisy heat arent really having a wonderful family night out…lol
please keep the posts coming on this. i really wonder what the majority of race fans, drivers, and track owners prefer.
Thanks

CAROL WICKS!

For me, a perfect situation would be to take off a few weeks in August when the weather is hot and rainy, and run Saturday or Sunday afternoons when it is cold out.

Naturally, if most tracks took some time off, some other track would figure out that they are the only game in town and would schedule a race. Oh well, that is the nature of competition.

I have offered this idea before for NSS and Orlando…

Race Orlando October - March except of course for the gov cup weekend and speedweeks. the reason being Orlando just seems to be the epicenter for rain in the summer. It is almost a given. Second, there are many snowbirds who are race fans down for the winter and they could race on Saturdays in lieu of Fridays.
Race NSS April - September. It is hot but the seabreeze seems to keep the rain away from NSS most weekends. Also, there are many visitors at the beach’s during those months and NSS could tap that market.
You would have cars that would race all year at both tracks that normally only run one or the other and you would offer a break for the drivers if they didn’t want to race all year and still run for points.
Just my two cents!!!

No fans in the cold…Only the racers are dum enough to go to the track below 50even if there from up north, other then a speedweeks event= or big deal race of some type with high car count.
Too rainy is same deal,so inbetween both is the ticket sale.
If it cost more then $10 forget it,and even at $10 it better be a good show or there not comeing back.
50
in fla. feels like 35*or less up north.

That statement is so true. However, I’d rather go to an afternoon show in the winter than a hot, muggy show in the summer. I know that there are snowbirds that would come also, if they hear about the tracks and show. You couldn’t just schedule the show without some sort of advertising though. You’ve got to let folks know there’s a track in the area that is racing.
