From Speed51:
SMYRNA: Dalton Zehr, who was declared the winner of the Crate Late Model feature after Cole Powell and Brandon Watson tangled coming to the checkers during night one’s action Friday night, was disqualified in post-race tech. That hands the win to Martin Latulippe unofficially. We’ll have more on this on Saturday during… Speed51.com’s Trackside Now coverage of Smyrna Speedweeks night two.
Powell was DQ’ed after dumping Watson coming down for the checkers. Zehr apparently had illegal valve springs. Last night, tech officials offered to go through the engine of Zehr’s #119 car today to make sure everything else was legal for the rest of the weekend, but to this point, Zehr’s car has not emerged.
I know there were a few others who got DQ’ed in tech: somebody for soaked tires; Aaron Pierce out of Indiana (SLM #31) had an illegal carburetor; and one of the other Crate LM’s had a second, “hidden” ignition box with an illegal chip in the box (but apparently, they didn’t hide the wires good enough; tech found them running up along the roll bar); the tech crew pulled out the illegal box and made them try and start the car right there in tech. Of course, it didn’t, and they had to wire up the original ignition.
Looks like Ricky Brooks and crew’re doing their job well
