Josh Rynd has been running this Sprint Car in DAARA for a few months now and I had a chance to talk to him at OSW last Friday… This car is ALL ORIGINAL with the exception of cleaning it up and installing a running engine… Fred Strickland found it behind a garage in Plant City just as it was run at Golden Gate Speedway from around 1969 through 1977 or so. The car was owned by Harry Crouse and was driven initially by Jim Alvis, then by Frank Riddle… I could not believe how good a shape this car was in as Josh has done nothing but clean it up… no re-painting or anything else!
Here’s one photo of the car taken in October (I think) at East Bay and a couple of Frank Riddle with it at Golden Gate… Sure brings back memories!
That is pretty cool! I’m good friends with Frank’s son Bill and grandson’s Bryan and Billy. Bill Sr. has Franks original Sprint that won all the liitle 500’s in Franks career and it’s still racing. He asked byt the Sprint Car Hall of Fame if he would donate it following Frank’s induction and Bill politely said NO! Thanks for posting that. I will upload a picture of the car I’m speaking of
Pictures! Keep in mind this car still has the original paint applied by frank riddle and that is his grandson bryan with the car now!
Thanks , I attended that event , of course I recognized the Riddle car. Steele won.
Dave, Have you ever heard if those guys that were restoring Luscomb’s car ever get it done?
