Midwest: Legend Joy Fair Passes

“This morning, Joy Fair passed away suddenly, while having his regular saturday morning breakfast with his buddies ( Terry Lilley ) at Jerry’s coney Island near the Pontiac Airport.”

That’s about all I found out. Joy had one bad-fast FOUR-DOOR Ford Maverick.

Say it isn’t so---------this is sad, Joy Fair, SR.
I have so memories of him at Baer Field Raceways, Fort Wayne Indiana.
This car and machine would come out of nowhere, and would be a fierce team all day long.
He also ran alot of Sunday Afternoon shows at the Baer, and numorous other Raceways, after his Sat. Nite gigs-----would travel anywhere, alongside Dick Trickle, and Bob Senneker.
This is sad news, and my thoughts and prayers go to the family. I will miss him.

An absolute Legend. Even as a kid in NY, I had heard of Joy Fair. He is to Michigan like David Rogers is to Central Florida… been around forever, always one to beat, and well respected by his fellow racers.

I’d be interested to know exactly when he started. It’s quite possible that Joy won races in an amazing 8 different decades (1950’s - 2010’s). I know for sure it was at LEAST 6 (1960’s - 2000’s).

For the fans in the Midwest, this is a BIG loss. Sorry to see another Legend pass.

Joy Fair started racing in 1949.
The first time i seen him race was at the Motor City Speedway in 1955.

There are not many who won more than Fair all across the US and Canada with 700 plus feature wins, he won more races than anybody in Michigan which included big names such as Senneker, Howe, Ruttman, Eddy, Miller, Maier, Anderson, Byrd, Benson Sr. and more.
