AUBURNDALE | A 12-year-old boy was injured Saturday night while racing a car at Auburndale Speedway, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened about 7:45 p.m. as the boy raced with five other children. While taking the track’s second turn, he collided with another car, lost control and struck a wall head-on, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
He was flown to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg in very serious condition, deputies said.
No information on his identity was available late Saturday.
Speedway owner Rex Guy declined to comment Saturday.
I hope he makes it through. Racing is a dangerous sport. My heart goes out to the parents. I can’t even begin to imagine what they are going through. Truly a sad day in racing.
I’m glad to see that the boy survived the crash and will have a chance to recover and live his life. Initial reports posted on Facebook said first that he was injured, and then someone commented that he had passed away. I guess a lot of people were passing around secondhand info and the confusion came from that. We’ll keep the prayers coming for him and his family.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - A 12-year-old boy suffered critical injuries in a crash at Auburndale Speedway.
According to spokesperson Donna Wood, it happened at approximately 7:45 p.m. during a kids race. Tyler Morr, of Arcadia, was driving a car, and there were five other vehicles on the track.
During the second turn, the boy’s car reportedly collided with another car - then hit the wall.
Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles at the time of the crash and both were harnessed and wearing helmets. The vehicles were reinforced inside as is common with standard race type cars.
Both vehicles are non-registered modified cars built strictly for race track operation. Speeds of vehicles involved in the crash are estimated to be no more 40-45 mph.
Wood says the boy was first airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, but then flown to All Children’s Hospital once he was stabilized.
A statement on Auburndale Speedway’s website says Saturday’s races were canceled after a “tragic accident occurred during our Kids Club heat race. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tyler Morr’s, family and friends.”
Tyler and his family are in my prayers. I am so glad he is still with us and I will pray hard that it remains that way. Having any driver hurt is bad but when it comes to a 12 year old, well, there are no words. God bless Tyler and his family and my prayers are with you all.
Reports from a facebook page claim he has passed away. Sad day for Florida racing. No matter how old the racers is we have all lost a member of the racing family.
Yesterday I had a Tampa newspaper and I read about it, and it has a picture of him in the car racing, and what I looking at that, and looking at it closer in the picture, he doesnt have much safely measurement in the car, Im talking neck brace or support so, he or other younger driver need to wear them now. Its dont take much to injured the neck in no time or whipspach (spelling), so, next time when a kid race again, they all go in and inspection all the car and have them start to wear neck brace, so, it would never happen again. I crash at Ocala when it was pave, I tell you what, coming off 4th turn, wall there faster then you think, turn 1-2 are wide, and 3-4 are tight. I had climb out of the car fine. And I started I had some bruised when I got home. I was praying for him til I heard he passed.
