Fan perspective on the sportsman class…
99% of us fans could care less about what kind of engine, tires, or gears your running. BUT…99% of us WILL BUY A TICKET to see cars race that look cool.
This is a sportsman car out of Plymouth, Indiana.

that is pretty cool
Cool sportsman car.
Here is a pretty cool road race stock car with a Nationwide chassis and motor.
Wow!!! That’s awesome Bosco. Sports car dudes seem to NEVER be afraid to try something “different”.
Hard to believe that’s an SPO car. We are building a Chumpcar out of an old Mustang that was in the SPO class also.
thats like dara cars
Neither one fit a template, so they should be outlawed immediatly.
J/K, I love 'em, especially that Studebaker.

Road Racing Great Gene Felton re-created his IMSA championship Nova using a Hamke short track chassis and then powered it with an Ernie Elliot DODGE cup motor.
thank you—
for posting this first photo, mr john/palmbayer.
i wanted todd mcreary to see this, too.
the photo is is d.j. frost, the driver—in a vintage-skinned street-stock field at plymouth, indiana, speedway.
it is a 1957 studabaker/golden-hawk. and to top it off, he also has a 1957 chevy that he owns, that races in the same class.r.
The last time I was in NY and visited Utica Rome, there was a guy there who had a couple of older cars that raced in their “street stock” type of class. I don’t know his name and can’t really remember the car. The one he had there that night was something from the late 50’s. My father was with me and told me the guy had a couple different cars that he actually got from a junk yard and fixed up to race. I think he may own the junk yard. I’ll have to find out if he’s still there.
Edit: I just took a look at the UR web site and saw a photo from earlier this year. I guess he’s still there. LOL The photo is from the Utica Rome website and is not one of mine.
stop giving me ideas
Might be the same guy, but different car than I saw at U-R a few hears ago also. Somebody was running a 57 Chevy the night I was there.
If I ever…
…build another Sportsman/LLM type car…
…it’s going to have an older Dart body (with Mopower under the hood) or a 67 Chevelle bodied tribute to the
BEST DAMN ERA THAT SHORT TRACK RACING EVER ENJOYED!
My father wanted to put a 57 chevy (or similar) on his sportsman the last couple of years but all we could find were fiberglass bodies that weren’t real sturdy and they were 3 or 4 grand. Not real conducive for NSS or OSW…we did go with the wedge type body the last couple of years…
Patrick has a quite interesting nose and fenders on his car…or at least he did the last time I saw it…
