Just before driver introductions at the 1977 Governor’s Cup at Golden Gate Speedway… See if you can ID all of them… Better yet, how many wins between them during their careers? That is probably impossible to figure out!

Here is a start. Butch Lindley Ritchie Evans David Rodgers Dickie Anderson Billy Gill Buddy Griffen Pee Wee Griffen Billy Barnwell.
My Guess
I think the guy knelt down in the center of the radiator is Richard Pratt .
Tom, no Richie Evans in that shot.
Randy Tissot, Billy Gill, Dave Scarborough, David Rogers, Buck Simmons, Billy Barnwell…that’s about all I can name. I think BVS is right about Pratt. I don’t recognize the driver behind Gill (standing at the door number), or whoever’s at the driver’s side.
Behind Billy Gill is not that Evans??
Indeed it is Richard Pratt… On another note, why do they all seem to have the exact same firesuits??
Behind Billy Gill is not that Evans??
Richie Evans didn’t ever run at the Governor’s Cup, let alone at Golden Gate He was a open-wheel NASCAR Modified guy, not a Late Model guy.
I think that’s Buddy Griffin standing at the driver’s door with his arms on the roof (yellow shirt).
On another note, why do they all seem to have the exact same firesuits??
Because back then, you knew who your heroes were without all them fancy-schmancy sponsor logos all over the firesuits…even your local hot shoes.
There’s somebody standing behind Scarborough, too, but can’t see who it is.
Leroy Porter At the drivers door ??
Butch Lindley’s #16 Red Nova ???
Harry Gant behind Scarborough ???:smilie_abcfra:
I don’t believe that is Dave Scarborough sitting on the left front corner of the hood. Harry Gant wasn’t in the line up either.
I’m with Trash…
I don’t think that’s Scarborough on the left front fender…looks more like Bob Senneker.
That is Sennecker I think.Behind Gill blue hat is Evans I am thinking. He drove late models for Pee Wee who is in the pic no fire suit. They were twin camaros beige and brown wrenched by Tom Pistone Neil Bonnet drove the other one.
Neither Evans or Bonnett ever ran the Governor’s Cup… Those twin cars (#30-31) were driven in this race by Bob Castoro and Billy Elswick…
Didn’t really think that was Scarborough…
I do remember…
…those Camaros.
Walking thru the GG pits as an impressionable young lad and seeing those two well-prepared, nicely-painted race cars sitting there. I remember wondering who the two names above the doors (Castoro and Elswick) were. Being from Bradenton and in 1977 I was all of 14 yrs old, I didn’t know too much aboout the South Florida racers.
They didn’t do all that well on the track but they sure were haulin’ ass while standing still.
Good times…good times.
Here is the finishing order provided by Jim Fenton, for the ‘77’ race. I don’t see Evans, Bonnett or Gant in the lineup.
My bad I got my years screwed up. Pee Wee did have 2 cars wrenched by Pistone He also had Marrio Rossi there to baby sit the motors. They were camaros biege and brown had stereo shops as sponsers and Neil Bonnet drove one I thought it was at tampa. Richie drove a nascar mod and won daytona for Pee Wee in a camaro mod that looked just like the late models.I need some help from Marty Little or Eddie Roche to help pin down the year.
Who is behind Billy Gill??
Butch Lindley’
s #71 Red Nova ??
The car actually belonged to Donnie Bishop… Butch drove it in the race…
