Time to start gearing up for the Gov Cup

I am going to try and make it home for the Gov Cup at New Smyrna Speedway…My question to you the fans and drivers is this…
What would it take to make it the biggest and best Gov Cup EVER??? When I come down there I want to see a GREAT race! Would love to see a lot of the old names there as well as the new names!
What we do not sometimes realize is…we are making history each race! This is what our legacy is…we want folks talking 20 years from now about the good old days that we are in now! I may be 1400 miles away…but am there each week in spirit! Let’s make this thing HUGE!!!
Now there are some that are going to post their regular wa wa wa on this post…COME ON be original and POSITIVE and let’s roll! I have no time for negativity…if you want to waller in it fine…I want a GREAT race!

How about having the first ever “Florida Racing Trivia Heavy-Weight Championship”? Obviously this can’t be held on the track, but we could do it during one of the parties, or behind the stands on a preliminary night.

Make it tough: 100 questions based on proven facts, photo identification, prominent race results, etc… Put it on a power point presentation and lets see who knows their stuff. No computers allowed!

Good idea Bone!!! That could possibly be done in the bar…Wonder if we could get Marty Little or Dave Westerman to be the Host of the show???

Marty and Dave should be contestents.

Yeah…but then who is going to know the answers??? LOL

What former Winners and participants are going to be there??? I would think it would be kind of cool to have them there on Friday night…with tables set up signing autographs…maybe even have the SLM drivers signing autographs also…maybe make it mandatory to make the appearance so that it turns into a festive atmosphere!

Just my thoughts…

Both great ideas. I want IN on the Trivia contest.

The mandatory autograph session is also a cool idea, but let’s try to include some former racers also… Leroy Porter, Dick Anderson, Jim Fenton, Jimmy & Mike Cope, Dave Pletcher, Bobby Brack… all come to mind…!

who is going to know the answers???

Ideally, this would be a royal rumble of the best in Florida: Little, Westerman, Binner, Coxon, McKinley, etc…, but still be open to anyone who wants to give it a go.

So someone else has to make the questions. How about a team of at least two? This way, each one can verify the answers of the other? I would volunteer, but I’d happily let someone else qualified do it too.

A different idea: organize a contest/race for RC cars and trucks. Don’t make it part of the racing show, paying fans don’t want to see toys, but do get as many as possible of these enthusiasts on the property to compete. Why? So they can see what the real thing looks like, and maybe we’ll win over a few become fans or even get a real car.

Let everyone get in free and then on the way out, pay how much you thought of the racing. Charge extra for beer, chips, sodas, etc. so if the racing is crapping you will get some of you’re money back. I think I’ve come up with a brainstorm.

Annoucing and having the previous winners of past years walk across the finish line.Example the 1st G Cup winner.
Make sure top 10 are inverted!!!
Drawings for free tickets to speedweeks!!!
