Nice Night at NSS !!!

Couple of surprises for me tonight at the half miler. First was that they even raced after listening to the forecast today as I expected rain all over the state. It was a beautiful night, little muggy but nice clear blue skies. Those mods on 10 inch rubber sure do look nice and appear to hold to the track nicely. Second surprise was the announcement of TBARA driver Dude Teate driving the #8 camo in the mini stocks. He started 8th at the end of the field, looked like he was getting used to the car for the first couple of laps, then started to make his move. As luck would have it, engine problems shortened his night about halfway through the event. All races were good, in my opinion the Super Stocks having the best of the the night as #56 Holley took victory over the #60 Tuminello after a race long battle. Surprise #3 was that each person who came with me tonight enjoyed the show. No grumblings about low car counts, etc but just complete satisfaction with the competition and the quickness which the program was run. Unofficial winners were Holley,Tucker,Vulpius,Satoris(sp)and Emerson (sp).

Denman, I actually screwed up and announced the Mini-Stocks backwards. Teate was in the Dk Blue/Red #0 (suffered mech. problems early), the Camo one was Brad Blanton. He is the current owner of Ted Vulpius’ race winning #14.

The Strictly Stocks winner was actually Zac Curtis in the #63 as Shane Sutorus #3 was DQ’d in post-race Tech.

The rest of the results are posted here: http://newsmyrnaspeedway.org/?p=3204

Glad you and your party enjoyed the night. We had a light sprinkle early in the afternoon but I had the radar up all day and we could see it was clear back to the Gulf. Actually just had another light shower (first one since early afternoon) hit the track about an hour ago (1:00am).

Hope to see ya next week!

I guess it is in the eye of the beholder. It looked more like a test and tune night: 32 cars, no heats, 5 features and done in under 2 hours. Oh well, the beer was cold and the people were friendly.

Why design such small shows? No heats? 5 small classes?

Yes, small car count, but I did see a good night of racing. The 25 lap Super Stock, as I mentioned, had a super race. The #25 & #60 did battle side by side for the entire 25 laps. Many say they don’t see outside groove racing any more, then they will be sorry they missed this one, as Bobby Holley stayed on the outside groove for the entire race, finally taking the win in his division. On the night 32 cars, yes. 32 competitive cars, yes. 32 dedicated drivers, yes. (i actually came up with 33 as I counted Bruns #14 modified which did not start the mod feature) Mini Stocks only 2 cars away from 10 as 8 started the feature. I watched Vulpius many years ago and am glad to see he hasn’t lost any of his skills. Mod on 10 inch tires looked great, really hope more cars move to the ten inch style. Tank won, Symons & Dietz in terriffic battle for second. Strictlys had the dq and #63 took the win. Sportsman had 7 with the 09e being closed in on by the #17 at the finish. Last time I saw this division at NSS they ony had 3. Last night NSS was 17 cars away from double figures in each division. All that was needed was 3 Supers - 5 mods - 2 min’s - 4 strictlys - 3 Sportsman to make that double figure mark in each division Glad to see this track keeping the competition as good as it it. Very little damage to the cars last night which contributed to the 2 hour show, and should bring more cars to the track in the oncoming weeks.

well I hope the car count for the mods on 10 in tires last night puts this to rest now . 5 mods showed up 4 started how many had 10 in tires 3 so there you have it . any time you make a change that cost a racer more money is only going to keep more cars parked . I heard alot of guys asking in the past to go back to the 8 in slick for the mods. and I only heard of 3 guys wanting to run 10 in tires. since this was a test maybe they should test out the 8 in slick now and see what happens. the smartest thing that fascar ever did was start the e-mod class a lot of guys had negtive things to say about it. but they now out number the big motor mods at fascar tracks and the reason is it was cheaper for the guys who wanted to race . 3200.00 for a crate motor or a built super stock and you can run regluar pump gas in them . I think it should have been crate motor only no built super stock motors . just my thoughts:waffen093:

Mod 8, as a layman with very little knowledge about the mechanical end of things, I am just curious. Would you get more wear and tear on the 10" tires? I know Symons, while speaking to the crowd at the end of the night did mention the cost of the tires initially… Now as far as the eeee’s go. As a fan that has become my favorite division and the division seems to be growing everytime I see them. Very competitive now. At OSW, with bad weather looming, there were 9 of them out for practice. Maybe more in the pits? Now back to the tens, wasn’t this voted on by the drivers? Like I said, just a fan…

They go back to 8in. slicks (F53) and mine will be right there at the gate. No, the 10in. deal was not voted on by the drivers. Why didn’t Bruns run?

dd38…Mark,who did a great job of announcing, did refer to whatever happened to Bruns in the practice session. I, of course wasn’t paying attention, and missed the details. Maybe someone else can fill us in on Bruns.

deman we have never been asked voted on anything that I know of someone just comes up with these ideals . 10 in tires are around 625.00 a set and the 8in are 525.00 someone correct me if I am wrong. theres more to it then just the tires you have to buy rims as well and I also heard its hard on the brakes and some other stuff.

Brakes, spindles, wheel bearings, driveline and most of all, the ENGINE. When we were on 8in. slicks at NSS, we ran a 468 gear to turn 76-7700 rpm. With the 10in. stuff we had to go to a 499 gear (that’s all i had with me) and turned 7400 max. More load/strain on the driveline and engine.

im pritty sure they said you can run 8 inch or 10 inch wheels. are there any other divisions at the track that run 8 inch slick tires or would that be something ne they would have to get in and keep stock of?

bruns blew up in practice, all mods were on 10 in. the diff. is only 2 races on 8 in veres 4 on 10 in.
