moving to florida soon and have some questions about some classes

sportsmans:

  1. stock spindle rule I see…does that mean no sweet type spindles are allowed?
  2. single piston calipers: can you run the howe racing caliper if its single piston and i assume the wilwood 4 piston racing calipers are not allowed?
  3. 10 in sinlge clutch: this means a stock clutch with slave cylinder & no racing type clutches like ram or tilton?
  4. hei ignition: I assume that means no msd type systems with the box?
  5. could someone give a simple plain english on this motor rule in this class? seems like there is a ton of options like the 602, 604 crate but with a certain carb and spacer and then there is a max 360 cubic inch motor allowed but with several restrictions? with the 360, can you have the pro action heads, porting, roller cam, porting, super victor intake, domed pistons? if not, can someone give the details on what exactly is allowed for this type of motor combo?

MODIFIED:

  1. see where tubular clips are allowed, does this mean the tubular camaro clips or does it have to be the metric type tubular clip and is that a clip that has to be bought from a certain builder down there or can you run any tubular camaro or metric clip, whichever the rule is, as long as it meets the dimensions of the stock one? example: howe, lefthander, port city tubular camaro clips?

  2. what is the motor rules in this class? can you run a 383 with the pro action heads, ported, domed pistons, roller cams, super victor intake, msd systems, etc. basically, if its steel head & block and built can it be run in this class

OVERALL: what is a good class for down there all over the place as far as pay, count, special shows, etc?

LAST QUESTION ON MOTORS: is the 604 crate motor allowed everywhere? what is better or preffered by most of the teams…a crate motor or a 360 motor?

I currently have what I think by the rules is a late model or limited late model. where I run we call these sportsmans, super stocks. it is a ABC bodied car, with a camaro tube front clip tubed fromn there back and underslung, stock tubular type lowers, tubular uppers, 4 piston calipers, wide fives, quick change, 3 link…I am trying to decide what to do as I can buy a perimiter type car with ford 9in, 5x5 and such but still has the racing calipers, clutch etc. I could also obviously run late models down there but I see them are strut type cars, which mine is not so I was thinking if the camaro tube clips are allowed in the mods and my motor, I would redo the motor mounts to the mod rules and change it over to be able to run that…

ANY HELP, ADVICE OR AS MUCH INFO ON THESE QUESTIONS WOULD HELP A TON…I AM WANTING TO COME DOWN AND RACE COMPETITIVELY IN WHATEVER CLASS I RUN, GET THE RIGHT MOTOR COMBO WHETHER ITS A CRATE OR 360 OR MINE.

thanks in advance.

if my current car would be in the same class as the perimeter car I could trade for, I might as well keep the one I have as its a really good car with alot of time in it. only reason i would trade would be if I could get the perimiter car in the sportsman class. thanks again

Sounds like your car would be a late model. You can run 604’s in a late model I believe. To be honest, run the late model class because of the car counts. Sportsman class here is struggling a bit.

What city are you moving to? If you can find the closest track to your new location, just google them and get their rule book.

Sounds like what you have already could be a badass Sportsman car capable of winning races with a few mods. If you ran it as a Late model you would get smoked. The race winning cars are all tube frame now. As far as running as a Modified you would have to make a bunch of changes and you better have one serious motor. As far as pay is concerned, it is pretty low for regular shows. However, they are planning on starting up a Sportsman series for 2013 that they are talkin about paying $1000 to win and $100 to start. Good money in the Sunshine State. Check out the thread on this board called “Southern Sportsman Series Returns in 2013!!!”. “Private Message” me (upper right hand corner of this page) with your phone number and I will call you and give you the low down on Sportsman racing here and what exactly you would have to do to your car. Too many details to type!!!

If you need to talk to someone on the phone about this stuff and where you are going to run please give us a call… we are local racecar shop (highly recommended by many) located down here in central florida… The name is AMF Chassis and the number is (863) 419-8700… ask for Bob or Sean! We will be glad to help you with anything
