Governors Cup BBQ....

Once again, I will be hosting a BBQ on Saturday afternoon at New Smyrna Speedway from about 1:00 on. Not sure yet what will be on the grill, but I don’t think we’ve ever been short on food to be cooked up.

ALL are invited to stop by, get a plateful, have a cold beverage of your choice, and listen to an afternoon full of lies, laughs, and friendships. Many of the guests I only get to see once a year, and every year I also meet some new people that I now call friends.

One disappointment that i think we’ll face this year, may be the loss of our “Robert Yoho pool”. We may have to find someone else to pick on this year… which is always done for entertainment purposes only. It actually started as a “Bruce Lawrence pool”, but when he retired we needed someone new to pick on. Who will it be this year…???

So, if you’re coming out to the races anyway, make a day of it…! Were gonna set up on the Grandstand side, and as you get near the ticket window, look to the left for a tiny patch of trees… that’s where we will be. Come one, come all, and keep the tradition going…!

PS - if you all know that you are coming, it does help to know when I go grocery shopping. Any help in this department is appreciated.

Would like to meet you and some of the others. I have been coming here for years but just recently signed up. I go to just about every super race there is and took a vacation day for the cup. It’s funny about about the Yoho thing my cousin and I used to say the same thing.

Bring it on…! Always like meeting new people, and I guaranty you will meet some real characters.

bets anyone----

We lost our Robert Yoho pool this year, which is always done for entertainment purposes only. Who will it be this year?

My guess is—our most unusual guest, Ian, as in years past; and the bets will be something like, um…what…will…he…do next?

Let the betting begin.

show up with a dish of some-sorts for the cooking–

And the betting will categorize---------Will our Ian…?

a—show up sober before the 200----
b—show up drunk before the 200----
c—will successively set up a tent with no help whatsoever----
d—will need help with the tent----and pass out—
e—drop his pants and spill 2 lbs. of mud in front of everyone—
f—or drop 2 lbs. of mud in the woods…and cannot clean up afterwords—
g—will piss his pants standing up, drinking a beer----
h—or sitting down, while eating a chicken wing—
i—vomit in the grandstands, on someone-----
j—or vomit in the woods, blaming it on the undercooked food—
k— will masturbate in front of the campfire, yelling racial slurrs—
m—will all be forgotten, and just another race behind him—

Rog, you got me crying laughing bud. Unfortunately, the most unusual Ian has already accomplished at least 50% of the things on that list. PLEASE Jerry, tell this guy the race is at Volusia on Sunday, or that you already had the Bar B Que, or that that you have invited his probation officer and all his ex-wives. Say ANYTHING to keep him away.

I have to reassure Jerry’s guests that Frassapooloza really is a good time, and attracts racing friends old and new. Yes, there is one guest I could do without, but don’t let one drunk scare you off from a really good time.

It will be great to meet all you guys that post on the site. I’m Rick and go by chassisdude on the site and live in Ft. Myers, I read all your posts but have never got to meet any of you. I will be sure to bring some food and drink to the BBQ.

Ten years ago this year, dad was the Grand Marshall for the Governor’s Cup race. This year I am going to be there to write a story on the race and take lots and lots of pictures. Would love to come by and see you guys and take a few pictures and learn how many years you have been coming to the Governor’s Cup race. So, with God’s blessing and maybe my knee braces on, I hope to see some old friends again.

P.S. This will be the first race I have gone to now in almost 2 years. I have my racing website but just haven’t gone to a race for a long time. Kindof lost my heart for it but someone told me that I need to do this again so I am starting new again with the Governor’s Cup.

Starting to shape up… So far, had responses from:

I wish I could make it Jerry, it would be great to see you again, and hang out with some fellow Karnacians. I’m going to Homestead for the truck race Friday night and then over to Showtime Saturday night for the Sprint Cars.

After the BBQ, don’t forget to pick up the TRASH.

Damn, I’ll miss it too this year. Was looking forward to bringing the camper, Jerry!
Unfortunately I’m getting a divorce and will be celebrating in Nicaragua with a bunch of old high school buddies. Surfing and fishing for two weeks. Somebody’s gotta do it! Have fun!!

Sorry John about the home life situation, but go have a blast. We’ll see you another time soon.

Others coming…
Sprint racer, Sonny O’Sullivan
UMP Mod racer, and near 50 year racing veteran, Jerry Morgan.
Linda Watford, who has her own unique way of “flagging” the races, and has quite the commentary also…!
Comedy relief provided by Gary Willis… a real commodian.

OK Jerry, it’s official… I’ll be there… better double the amount of food!

I thought about going but I decided to go to East Bay Saturday night. Sprint cars will be there and they were scheduled to run without the wings. Not sure if they’re still doing that but it should be a decent show regardless. Good luck to all of you.
