Did I miss this announcement? I didn’t have any clue that the USAC Midgets will be part of NSS World Series in February. It appears they have replaced the TBARA Sprint cars on that Sunday & Monday.
These guys put on a wild show, and really looking forward to seeing them run the high banks.
On the flip side, although i see it on the NNS site, i did not see it on USAC’s schedule ( their 2013 sched is not posted yet, but didn’t see any press release announcing or confirming this). Hope it all gets signed and sealed to have this 2-day show.
SK Modified count has been low for a few years at speedweeks and they only had 8 for the North-South Shoot out at Caraway. The USAC cars would be cool if they get some. I think it is better for the deal to have some new stuff once in awhile. The World series has lost some of its excitement in recent years. Maybe a little changing up will help !
Man, if that is the case - i like both pieces of information. With reasonable participation from the midgets I would be there both nights. Hopefully the full blown modifieds will pick up some with the Daytona show as well.
It will be interesting to see how this one turns out. I see this group ran 11 races in IL, IN and MI, and they averaged 20 cars per event. I have to wonder how many will make the tow to Florida, and how many others from different regions will join them. IMCA draws a ton of modifieds from that part of the country to Florida, so anything is possible.
Are they really going to run for less money than TBARA? We’ll see.
For the sake of the show, imagine how cool they would be at Orlando! But there is zero chance of that happening.
Rex… they have run Orlando several times. The PRI/USAC double header with the Sprints & Midgets.
Know what I’d LOVE to see… the USAC Silver Crown series at NSS. I’ve seen them on 1/2 mile dirt and both 3/4 & 1-mile asphalt tracks. Not a bad show in any of the previous events I’ve seen.
The midgets are wingless right? Without a wing, I am worried that they will be very tough to see at New Smyrna. Its hard enough to spot stock cars when they are on the back straight, a midget with no wing will disappear.
Btw: I was at the Orlando midget and sprint show. They needed wings so they can pass IMHO.
The big problem I see here is that the USAC pavement shows (Silver Crown, Sprints & Midgets) can’t draw cars, even in their own backyard (Midwest)… The hope would be that some drivers from other Midget groups would be allowed to run as well… Either way, they’ll probably be more Midgets than there would be SK Mods and definitely will be more competitive… I’d like to see NSS bring back the old “Thundercar” mentality from back in the 70s-80s… Run a class of run-whatca-brung cars mixing Sportsman type to Street Stock types together… Those were some crazy races back then… Had to run an A feature and a B feature every night… I also agree there should be just one class of Late Models…
