61 Supers at Snowball Derby

Lots of great cars & teams there. At least 40 are potential winners, and several very good racers won’t even make the field.

One entrant caught my eye… Nelson Piquet Jr. is there, and I don’t know if has ANY Late Model experience. Is he also the first Formula 1 driver to enter a Snowball…?

where would you look to see who all is there

Try Speed51.com and click on “Trackside Live” it has minute by minute updates on everything that goes on at the track. It will be on Live as it happens, and archived later to read it from start to finish. Lots of pictures also, plus historical notes from past races.

GREAT way to keep up with the big show. The last few years, I sat in front of the computer for several hours keeping track of all the action.

I don’t know if Piquet JUNIOR ever ran F1; if he did, it was for a very brief period.

Wasn’t he involved in a scandal a few years ago? Under team orders, he was supposed to intentionally crash, to bring out a caution, which helped his teammate (who was battling for the season Championship) in the finishing order.

He DID crash, the team was fined heavily, and Piquet got out of F-1.

… the story goes ‘something’ like this…

After more research, I found that it was the Singapore Grand Prix in 2008, the team was Renault, and the other team driver was Fernando Alonso. Charges were brought against the team, who did not dispute the claim, and 2 team executives were suspended from F-1. This allowed Alonso to move from 15th to an early pit stop, setting up the win and Championship points. Piquet didn’t bring any of this up until being fired from his ride at the end of the 2009 season.

Snowball Entry List

http://www.5flagsspeedway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/45thAnnualSnowballEntriesList122612.pdf the link to Five Flags and the drivers entry page. According to them there are 71 entered either way a lot of good cars. I have been following on Speed 51 too especially their tweets. Some neat stuff form the kick off party at Beefs in Pensacola last night.

71 were PRE-entered, but 61 are actually on the grounds and have pulled a pill for qualifying order.

Ok, that explains it.

That guy Frasson…

…such a know-it-all.

Where’s my Falstaff, dude?

lol

We confirmed it earlier today on Speed51.com, as I am working for them this weekend, Piquet is the first F1 driver to ever qualify for the Derby.

28 cars will line up tomorrow for the Last Chance Race for the Derby, plus we’ll have live Radio Broadcast of that and the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 for the Pro Late Models.

Should be a great day to lead up to the 45th Derby. I will be reporting from Pit Road both days.

It is truly an amazing event to view from the “inside”. Been here since Tuesday and am absolutely amazed by the whole experience. Should definitely be a Bucket List item for ANY true race fan.

The whole Speed 51 crew is doing an awesome job. Good to see youre a part of it and Im definately getting back up there next year. I went in 2010 and it is a “must see” for sure.
