Best Kept Secret In FL Racing - New Dirt Track To Open...

I’m still trying to gather more details, but Melbourne Motorsports Park is going to open a dirt oval track… Opening date is January 5… Gates open at 4PM, practice from 4:30-6:30, Racing at 7PM… This sounds sorta like a run whatacha brung type of thing, but I will try to find out more and post…
Track is located at 835 Paw Prints Ave., just off West Eau Gallie Blvd and is just west of I-95…
Phone number listed on Facebook is 321-720-3895…

One corner is flat and one corner is banked! Sounds like a good ole’ time.

They are running two classes: 4 cylinder stock, and 8 cylinder stock. Everyone will be on street tires to keep it cheap.

This, from what I’ve heard (and seen a few pics of… thanks to palmbayer), this is a VERY small track… 1/6 of a mile. It won’t handle full-size, full-blown racecars, but I bet it would be great for something like Mini Sprints. It’s a starting point, and who’s to say it can’t be expanded in the future to a larger size if it gets good support.

Either way, any track OPENING up is a good thing.

Hearing all the doom & gloom about tracks closing has gotten old… how about some attention on the tracks that opened UP? In the last few years, tracks re-opening include New Hendry,Showtime, Ellisville, Bronson, Needmore (in GA.) and soon to be Melbourne and Putnam County. Even Irwindale Speedway in California is re-opening after a year of being closed.

There are a LOT of positives going on in short track racing, and it needs more attention…!

Forgot to include Marion County Speedway… another small track with a big future…

All indications are that Lanier Speedway will reopen, as well in 2013. Although a very short hiatus, as last race was in March of 2012, Laniers future is vital to the continued existence of asphalt racing in Georgia. Gresham Motorsports Park is a fantastic facility, but the track size, speeds, limited schedule, rules, etc. are not friendly to the average weekend racer. Gresham is primarily a big wallet track.

And here is the perfect car for it!

That is the somewhat new L-Mod being produced by U.S.Legend Cars International! This car was designed by Ray Evernham and is a water cooled Legend of sorts. I have not driven one…but have been told by anyone that I have talked to that has driven one they are GREAT! This is USLCI attempt at a full out dirt car!

I called them,they said it is 1/5th

They will also be running what they call Super Stocks with 10.5" tires.
All rules are posted on the Facebook page

Wonder what the reasoning was for making it 1/5 instead of at least 1/4 mile???

all racers

We all need to suport this…

I had a blast last night in the 4cyl class (31 car). Great job by everyone involved with the track!!! As expected for opening night, there were a couple of issues to address. Nothing I haven’t seen before. What was cool was the number of people who were at their FIRST race ever last night. …and that’s a GREAT thing !

letting the “show” continue in the rain was without a doubt the right call. The majority of the fans there last night would not have understood a “rain out” at a dirt track. It’s not like they were dealing with sprint cars or something.

They race again in 2 weeks. You can bet your ass I’ll be there !!!

You know how nice it is to actually see someone write something good about a track and to say they enjoyed it and will be back in two weeks. I would have loved to have gone last night but as of yet, I still have my silly double pneumonia and have to get that well first before any night time events but it sounds like it was alot of fun and great night. Hope you have another great night in two weeks. One question - are there stands to sit in or do you bring your own chairs?? Hopefully I will be able to come soon.

Last night was a blast even with all the rain. For right now it’s bring your own chairs or “tailgating”. Was told that they’re hoping to get some stands up soon, but for now there’s parking on both sides of the track where you can pull your vehicle up to and watch. Hope to see you there soon.

Kendo, can you give an explanation of the picture you posted ? I don’t see a racing surface in the picture

The pic is before a car has ever been out there,it has been groomed into a track since…The guardrails are the front and backstretch. The concrete barriers are around the turns.

Went there last nite & I would call it good family fun.Was impressed at the amout of fans that came out.Track actualy looks bigger than the pic. They had about six 8cyl and eight 4 cyl cars plus a dirt late model running some hot laps.

What is cool is that you can tailgate on the front or backstretch.Back your pickup to the fence and open the cooler :ernaehrung004:

From what I hear grandstands are in the future.

A ‘Drive-in’ Speedway… I LOVE it.

Shades of Deland

Who had a late model there? It’s not too small for them. Check out Belle Clair and Macon Speedways. They are both 1/5 miles. Of course this new track needs to get established first.
