I just stumbled upon an old '70s Margay kart. (some assembly required…) I would like to get it running and take it to Auburndale. Is there a class that it would fit? Can a 40 year old kart be somewhat competitive? It has a Briggs 5hp that was run on alky. What RPM range do these things run? Where do you get fuel and parts?
I obviously know nothing about kart racing, but this thing is way too cool to let die.
Need: tires, the right gear set, an adult size seat, professional help (according to my wife).
what area are you in? might help as far as where to get parts. I haven’t run dirt karts in a few years but, we were running the flatheads (Briggs 5horse motors) about 6-6500 rpms at the end of the straights. classes are typically broken down by age for jr classes and total kart weight with driver for senior classes. check out karting.4cycle.com. there is tons of info on there for kart racing.
