Cool Pictures Ancdave

MR.DUNKIN do you think the picture of jr. purcell, was before he started driving ron abneys car back at the gate. I had the pleasure of working with JR.at SOUTH FLA ENG,in the late 70’s, Back in the day that guy could get it done in anything he drove JMO

Dave, just a guess, but I think the 03 might be Rick Lokey.

jr purcell

:aetsch013:i know jr kicked butt in that 6 cylinder,he ran a lot at desoto,he was a front runner where ever he went.

Above us link to a pic of Lokey in the # 03 street stock @ New Smyrna.

I’m sure it’s not Lokey, otherwise it would have Lokey’s Automotive as a sponsor as all the Lokey cars did…

The one I found did have Lokey Automotive @ NSS. Look like different cars.

On the 03, it’s interesting to see ‘Rons Forklift’ on the side. Ron Arnold was the father of Rick Arnold, who normally ran a #19. Is there a chance it could be Rick Arnold?

Jerry, I noticed that to, when I looked at the photo last night. Looking today with my glasses on(LOL), it kind of looks like Ron behind the wheel. Rick Arnold had a lot of hair back then.

Just a guess but is the 124 Jim Alvis maybe? I saw this car at Tampa too.

03 I believe is Rick Lokey. Notice the BOYD RACING ENGINES sticker on the fender. dennis did Rick lokey’s engines back then. Never mind if my spelling and punctuation is off as I just got out of the hospital aftwe being involved in a big time car wreck om tuesday qafternoon

DD38 I didn’t see the Boyd decal on the side but I am sure that’s Ron, Rick’s dad behind the wheel. The AAA radiator shop that was next to Arts sandwich shop and Spencer’s was on the corner of Kaley and the trail. My dad had a shop at 19th and the Trail when I was a kid.

Ted, Ron may have owned it or partners with Rick. The Boyd sticker is right there on the rear of the right front fender by the 3 towards the top. I know them stickers!

So, you think it’s Ron Arnold? Very interesting, as my very first race in Florida was at Auburndale, with Ron & my parents ( very late 1980, or VERY early '81). He was a sponsor at the time of the Blue 28 that Ernie Bass drove… but Ron never mentioned that he himself drove.

Rick Lokey 03

The pic of the 03 car is not Rick Lokey thats after he sold the car.

The o1 is none other than Frank Johnson.

The 01 is none other than Frank Johnson.
