Meet the new owners of speedworld

I heard thru the preverbial grapevine that they are going to vote with the drivers as to what nite they want to race, Fri or Sat. So be there to vote. and if you are not there to vote and don’t get the nite you want, don’t complain. I’ll be there barring any cars don’t run red lites and total my car between now and then (and park my ass in the hospital for 3 days)!!!
I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Ozzy Moya. My wife Maria and I have purchased all the assets of Orlando Speedworld Circle track and have leased the property for the next 20 years. We are already working on improvements and updates to the property and have a long range goal of many more improvements for the future. As owners of the Lakeland Dragstrip we are planning on bringing the same enthusiasm and energy to the circle track racing industry that we have with the dragstrip. NASCAR has come onboard with us and we look forward to a long partnership of bring both the racers and the spectators the best forms of racing entertainment possible.
There will be a meet and greet at Orlando Speedworld Circle Track this Thursday, January 24th at 7;30 pm. Rob Duval from NASCAR, myself and my wife will be there to introduce ourselves and to answer any questions you may have about schedules, events, series?, and the future of Orlando Speedworld Circle track. Snacks will be available at the meet and greet as well as good friends from throughout the racing community. We are excited about this amazing opportunity to bring a new energy to circle track racing in central Florida, and are looking forward to meeting and talking to all of you. Thanks, Ozzy and Maria
You’re making a big effort to get input from racers, that’s a good start. It sounds like you’re new to stock car racing so you’re in for some surprises. Just surround yourself with people who have the best interest of the track at heart and you’ll be fine. And please don’t rely on message boards and facebook to market the track. That’s been the downfall of that place. Hire a good PR person, give them a budget to work with, and turn them loose on the newspapers, radio stations, tv stations, national outlets, etc.
Good luck to you and your wife in this venture.

Personally, I think it is great that someone cares enough about racing and SpeedWorld to take it over. Some of us really do love that track and don’t want anything bad to happen to it. And I know for a fact that Butch and Barbara both have always been supporters of SpeedWorld and have always dreamed of owning it themselves because they did care so much.

Being on the media side of racing now, I hold an open mind and am thankful that someone cared enough to do this. I really want to come to the meeting and hear what everyone has to say so hope to see you there. But just be thankful the track is not going away and just maybe it can be what it should be, a great short track close to Orlando, Florida and another place that tourist should come to when in Orlando. Because remember, there are alot of people who love short track racing and come to our area for DisneyWorld, SeaWorld, Universal Studios, Cruise Ships and now Racing. Let’s make it the best for everyone.

That’s great. Now again I ask why when you google orlando speed world or orlando speedworld you get the drag strip and no where that I can see can you get to the “circle track”.

Sure it’s easy if you know it is “.org” but “.com” would lead to more hits by those looking.

Maybe it’s time to come up with a different name altogether. Like you mentioned, Orlando Speedworld leads people in the wrong direction. And the domain name is already taken, and maybe some NEW LIFE is what’s needed.

Let people know that this IS a new era, a different attitude, and hopefully a new direction.

When Bubba opened Ocala, and when Yoho opened Ocala, they both wiped out the previous name… something NEW gets peoples attention more than the same old stuff… different name.

I can see it now… The OZcar series…!

OSW meeting

Well, I for one was very impressed by the turnout and the support the track recieved. A lot of people love that place and want to see it thrive.

Interesting tidbits- Within an hour of the annoucement of Nascar sanctioning, other tracks around the state wanted info on bringing Nascar in…

Nothing is in stone about what night to race. A vote yielded mixed results…

He does want to run 40 plus nights a year and he wants to be successful. He’s humble, soft spoken and ready to dig in…

He wants to plow the first 5 years profits into improvements… refreshing.

I for one want to see him successful. If he wins, Short track racing wins…

I was there and I would say the vote was way in favor of Sat night. Just my observation.

Not that it matters. The “NASCAR” guy seemed to say that they “sanctioned” NSS as a SAT night track and the tracks would not compete.

Nascar license required $95 I think. The new owner seemed excited to make things work.

Someone had taken down the shower curtains (they were in the trash can) providing privacy for the toilets. Maybe doors on the way?

Was…

There soap in the bathrooms?

Safety Equipment

We all know that OSW is in need of improvements in several areas . The main item that i would like to see and be more informed about what is available at the track for safety equipment? Repaving ,bathrooms etc. in my opinion can and should take back seat to safety. [I] would like to see before any cars even practice is a checklist of equipment and that everything is in working order.

Vote-for-Soap-----------------that’s my motto.

Safety

I hope safety rules are put in place , head and neck restrains, current seatbelts, helments in ALL classes. We don’t need anyone hurt or killed . In the past the good old boy racing mentality was ok at Orlando . Good time to move into modern times.
