Got word(from a good source) that in fact this will be run at nss next year.
It should have been run at NSS this year. Or any real race track. This is just another in a very long line of huge mis-steps by NASCAR over the decades. But this one will be talked about and laughed at for a long time to come.
There was a perfectly good way to present their K&N series and the New England Mods to the Speedweeks fans, NSS. The higher ups at NASCAR just always have to do it their way to prove they have the power to.
Speaking of rumors, while i was over there i heard there’s a possibility that NASCAR is going to build a permanent asphalt short track on the grounds at the speedway ( possibly outside the speedway like the motorcycle track is ) and do their own shows all the way through speedweeks. I heard NASCAR feels that would be the way to keep the majority of fans ( and their money ) right there at the speedway.
The only issue with that is NASCAR does not allow their tracks to compete against each other when they are that close. NSS being their newest track and just miles away would be an issue. At LVMS it works but I don’t see that being a good plan here.
I was there and there were a lot of people. I’m sure it didn’t look that way on TV, but it took 45 min to get out of the parking lot (and we beat feet). Can’t see NASCAR handing that cash-cow over to NSS when it didn’t cost them anything to have the event (some used tires?). Remember it’s NA$CAR.
I think the only other thing nascar cares about is image and it took a real hit with that show.
I can only imagine how good that show would have been at nss. I would buy tickets rig ht now for it. It would be an absolute homerun and I cant help but think that the nascar sanction might have been for that reason alone.
This came from my buddies brother who works for grand am. Also the twins are running the twins at night next year too.
I think every one is right but you have left one thing out …the track is DAYTONA
and that is why they came to it to get there name on a DAYTONA trophy

The races being televised was a big deal too
yes that to
I’m sure the televised part played into it, i’m sure getting your name on a trophy from Daytona played a part as well. And both should. But from the fans point of view, which after all is the most important thing, the race was a cobbled together mess and gave the sport a black eye that wasn’t necessary.
Racing on the Super Apron was i hope, a one time thing. Next year those cars need to be part of the show at NSS.
I know it would be a good show at NNS but it won’t happen but I think they should try the front stretch like the used to do at the ROC at poncono
The Pocono track wasn’t really the ‘front stretch’, but the front stretch was used. It was a full 3/4 mile track that was purpose built as a racetrack. Not like Daytona that was a mall parking lot with tires for walls, cones, and some cheap ass striping that kept peeling up and getting caught on several cars. The event itself was pretty cool… until the green flag flew.
The comparisons to Bowman Gray aren’t really fair. They actually RACE at BG, with plenty of contact, and the fairly regular ‘dump & run’ tactics. But at BG, they have enough room to get sideways, without someone spinning out every time someone gets a bumper put to them. At Daytona, NOBODY got through after getting the chrome horn put to them.
NASCAR could just buy NSS AND HAVE BOTH WAYS

Yep! And the week after the 500, move the whole circus from DIS to NSS. Now the Speedweek would become SpeedMonth. But WOW!!! The races we would see there!!! That would be a good place to use the 2 words: Awesome & Exciting!!!
Imagine that: a whole week of Wheelen Mods, K&N, Super Late Models, Camping World Truck, Nationwide and Sprint Cup, all on a half mile track. THAT would be racing at its best.
Meanwhile, it would be closed the rest of the year. No thanks.
yes it will be there
katlizy - is that something new? As of a couple weeks ago I was told that it definitely wasn’t going to be there by someone at NSS who had just spoken with NASCAR about it.
Matt your first sentence told why it should stay at Daytona

I attended only the late model race this year for the battle but an old dog like me GOT GOOSEBUMPS JUST DRIVING AROUND THROUGH TURN ONE to park my van to go to our seats. How do you think those young guys felt that night that were racing?I have been on a lot of racetracks in my time and never felt that feeling before. Not to mention the huge payday that came with that race that probably wont follow it to a new venue.Hey New Smyrnas impressive in its own right, but comparing it to daytona is like comparing microwave food to home cooked.Nascars mistake was in the poor promotion given to an inaugural event. My old hometrack Columbus Motor Speedway in Ohio, itself a Nascar affiliated weekly track never even mentioned this event during any of their saturday night shows in the summer of 2012.Also this event as described by Nascar IN THE months before it was supposed to be for state and track champions and top 10 point finishers in each state/track.Several of those boys told me in the auto graph session before the race they were making their 1st or almost first start ever in a late model that night.???
My source is someone in the media, who asked me to cover the race for them, so I hope they are correct.
That is the reason for the musco lighting that is needed for televised events that they are installing
daytona race
I race the southern tour and at charlotte in the drivers meeting the rep from unoh said that we will be supporting the unoh battle of the beach at daytona once again and are excited about it to all of the crewcheifs and drivers ! Not sure what that means ,but it sounded like daytona to me ,maybe the front stretch like charllote ! Either way nss or daytona its an awesome televised race thats shorttrack all the way ! Cant wait for announcement!r
