Just throwing this out there, why are there 2 classes of modifieds??
On 2 different tires at some tracks?
If there was a reason what was it?
Because the tracks basically threw out the rule books when it came to engines for the Modifieds. Guys are building and running $25-30,000 engines in these things. The little guys couldnt compete with Symons, Tucker, Collins, Dempsey, etc…
So they started an E-Mod class with Crate Engines so the engine budget wouldn’t kill the average Joe.
As for why the different rules on width and tread… NOT A CLUE why nobody can get their shit together on this one.

Asphalt e-mods use the same chassis as full mods and must weigh a minimum of 2500 lbs. The difference is the motor. E-mods can use a crate motor or built motor that has to be Super Stock legal. Stock or Performer intake and a 4412 Holly carb. No roller rockers and flat 4 eyebrow pistons. Basic 9 to one motor. The ‘e’ stands for economy modified for teams who don’t have the big bucks, but want to run OWM.
Hope this answers your question williston19…
Don’t know the difference in the dirt e-mod tho.

Ok lets all get into the wayback time machine. Weren’t the modifieds
started on the idea of a fun fast and “controlled division”.
I seem to remember basic but equal rules.
Run youre motor but be ready to have it claimed.
Weight based on cubic inch.
A tire, not a great tire, just a tire.
Now 30 years later this system has evolved and is broke.
Tell me a claim wont work, tell me the tires are junk.
But tell me how we can get back to 20 car fields and great entertainment.
Oh and remember only 1 car can win , but you cant win if you dont even try.
Personally it takes all us other loosers to make the Winner look good on a Saturday(Friday)night.
Several classes have evolved into a money pit. When I started Sportsman 12 years ago it was a basic Street Stock with headers and a souped up motor. No aftermarket upper control arms, stock floor pan and frame all the way back. Look now at what we used to call a limited late model, and the LLM is now a Pro Late model. Modifieds were a poor mans fast car. Build your own body, no fenders and a 7lb per cubic inch.(same as now with a 2500lb minimum) weight. Motors got to $20,000+ and only big buck teams could race them… along came the e-mod to get the chassis’ off the jacks and back to racing…
Bring what cha’ got up to Ellisville(lake City) Rick… We actually have fun up there and a lot f cars from the Bronson area.

My rant about the Mod’s from Don’s “New ideas not crap” thread:
Let’s examine the mod division @ NSS. This is not intended to pick on NSS, just an example to discuss. There are two modified divisions. How many cars does each division attract on a given night? 5-8? 8 is being very optimistic. Why have two divisions? Why not have one with some common sense rules? The old days it used to be build a bad ass steel head motor. Then you could run alum heads w/ 50 lbs in front of the flywheel. Then that rule kinda went to the wayside. Then people would show up with SB2’s for big races. Then you could run a big motor w/ 7 lbs per CI, or you could have a big motor with a two barrel and be 2500 lbs. Then you could do “X” and weigh 56% left, but if you had “Y” then you could be 56.5% or whatever. Look at the damn e-mods now - needs to be a crate motor, or you can run a superstock motor…
Then you are buying a set of 4 tires every night…
Eff’ing nonsense.
One modified division. One set of damn motor rules. Pick a hard tire that lasts a few nights (maybe the grooved tires do?).
Here’s your motor rules:
Production block, wet sump
360 CI max
Crank weight rule
23 deg. heads only, alum ok
Make the carb’s pass a gauge rule.
Or even go more strict, who cares. Just make a set of rules and stick with them for more than a season. We are hesitant to commit to either division of mods because of the lack of cars and the fact the damn rules change so much.
End of rant.
But what do I know…
Just a note here though pintodave: Govenors Cup OWM race had 41 show and 38 start( I was one with an e-mod motor and a borrowed 4 barrel carb). I qualified poor due to sun thru the windshield out of 4 and could not see the wall even with sunglasses on. But it was fun until lap 8 and a spin in front of me collected the RF tire and ball joint. Of the 13 cars that finished, I had already passed the last three. I no longer have an e-mod legal motor, but will be on the track this year when funds allow… Mainly in Ellisville(Lake City).
Hope to see you at the track sometime this year at NSS. :huepfen024:

Had no issues running with Tucker Symons and or anyone else. We ran all week til the motor had an issue. Modifieds are fun 7lb per cubic in and 4bbls no issues. In Virginia they changed the rules to crate and 4412 carb and only drew 9 cars. I say weight per cubic inch and if they want to run a SB2 well let them I dont care of they spend 20K that’s just stupid on their part.
As a car owner I race to have FUN and enjoy myself.
If Money is an issue go run a Pro4, Strictly Stock. I run where and when I can WITHIN MY BUDGET!!! That is the key!!
The modifieds that have big motors do not work on the small tracks and the big tracks lets us show our speed. There are more than enough cars with good motors. The SB2 motors can be bought for 7 to 14 grand all day long. If you have a e mod motor just due what we did, spent 1500 on a good set of sportsman heads and manifold and cam went out a sat on the pole and finish third in a 100 lap race with a emod lower end.
The slick F53 tire is a race tire, the grooved tire will not last more than one race and is a tire that once you piss it off, forget it coming back. JUNK!!! You want more cars standardize the dam tire. NSS, Showtime, Pensacola, Mobile that I am aware of run the slick. The groove tire cost the same and is less forgiving than the slick. Race cars run on SLICKS.
The modified cars but butts in the seats, the purse needs to a minimum of 600 to win and 150.00 to start, the cars will come and race. Every race in the last 6 months with big purses had 20 - 30 plus cars.
Showtime in the last 3 race had 16 to 18 cars with 500 to win and a decent payback thru the field.
Another example to look at is the Northeast Modifieds. They run Tour rules, ROC rules, SK rules, SST Mods, and ROC Mods (if not more). They all runnthe same basic chassis, but motor and carb rules are the main difference. Too many variances for me, and many of these have slim fields.
Back in the day, you could take a ‘Modified’ anywhere from Canada to Florida, and it was still a ‘Modified’. Now they can’t take one an hour from home without changing motors, carbs & manifolds, wheel & tire inventory, etc…
They shot themselves in the foot with SO many different rules.
Yet they ALL run the same chassis…
