I recently moved down here, bought a very good sportsman car, went all the way through it and have taken it to 5 shows. the rule is either a “sealed” 602 crate or a 360 max open motor. the crate gets to run a 4 barrell while the open motor has to run a 2 barrell…here is where I am seriously confused and kinda getting pissed…
these crate motors are being bought for $3000, then taken to places & spending another $3-$4,000.00 & getting it completely redone & cheated up so they are very close to the equal of a open motor. They get these motor re-sealed or, for some tracks & series the rule now does not even require seals so that makes it even easier & the majority of guys running the crate deal are getting away with it & the biggest issue is they are still allowed to run a 4 barrell while the open motors must remain running a 3 barrell…amazing is all I can say with that!!
the last 2 races we run, the car has handled excellent. the entry is faster than anyone, the middle is right on the bottom & then there is the exit where I have the 2 barrell to the floor and compared to the legal crate motored cars, we look dead slow. We also get flat smoked, by 2-3 car lengths, on every restart by these illegal crate motors an thier 4 barrell carbs…by the end of the race, every car in the race falls off and I caught the entire group BUT with no time to do anything with only 2 laps left. Im sorry nor am I dumb as I have been doing this a long time and there is NO WAY a legal crate motor with a 4 barrell is going to be that much faster than a open motor with a 2 barrell. Now, before anyone chimes in and tries to tell me different or that its something we are doing, save it because we turn the motor 7200-7400, our set up has been super good as I said, the open motor we run is top of the line & the bottom line is, these crate motors are NOT legal.
I guess what I am wondering and saying to promoters and such is why is this continuing to be allowed or, more importantly, why isnt there one carb rule for everyone, which would fix the issue all together? In my opinion & why tech guys fails to see, which amazes me because I have only been racing down here 2 months & I see it clear as a bell. Fact of the matter is, if it is not “exactly” the way it come from gm, factory seals, inside & out including the balancer, then it should NOT be legal or, more importantly, it should be be required to run the 2 barrell carb. In my honest opinion, with the seals are not even required at most tracks, there needs to be ONE CARB RULE period for everyone regardless of what motor they run. then, if the crate motor is a 100% stock factory crate motor, then give them a 50 pound weight break for the horsepower difference. I still cannot figure out why something has not been done & get the issue fixed. It is a simple fix by either making ONE carb rule or making the crate motors that are allowed to run a 4 barrell remain 100% stock from the manufacturer.
with all that said, I catch on to all games that get played fairly quick and I am plan to enter into the game myself but to me, its just simply bulls!@t that it has to be that way at all. I feel better now but still irritated & disgusted!!! LOL.
