The track was in a tough spot on Sunday afternoon. On one hand, they FINALLY had a clear, sunny and spectacular day with a race scheduled to start at 4. It sounded terrific, so I took the kids and drove two hours to see it.

On the other hand, they had a very wet and sloppy track. With such sunny weather, they would have looked foolish to “rain it out”, so they did what they had to do to get the show in. It took several hours of sunshine, track work and packing to get it going, but in the end they ended up with a smooth track that didn’t take rubber. No problem; race on!

To my amazement, several of the biggest names decided to “save their cars for tomorrow” (the Monday race at BRP just now getting underway). What is going on with that? Is that how Steve Kinser is going to conduct the farewell tour? “Come out and see the King…if he decides to unload and strap in.”

Because my kids had school in the morning, I had to leave before the sprint car feature for the first time ever. Hey, things happen. Even though they missed the starting time by hours, it was better than a ninth rainout in a row. I know that everyone’s schedule was affected by the damn weather, and that the modifeds were still arriving when I left at 10. I have no problem with them making it up as it goes along, but I’ll bet you the track will be back to normal, on time and on target, now that the flood has receded.

Note: early in the afternoon they requested for 4WD trucks to come out and pack the track in. Mine is a 2WD and my kids wanted to ride, so I thought “how bad can it be?” Wow, that was close! I couldn’t go more than 1 mph, and was lucky to get out without sinking. One lap and I was done…my first ever start and park!

Max Dolder posted this shot he took just after sunrise this morning… Lots of work to do to make the place “comfortable” for tonight’s show…

The grandstands were very clean. I thought it was due to the torrential rains, but now I see that they were cleaned on racecay. Thanks!

TSR and KKR racing never showed up yesterday either. Track was awesome last night finally. Dave Blaney set fast time and almost broke the track record. It was just a shame that Sunday night the track was too sloppy for the WoO guy. Last night there should have been no excuse not to run.
