so who won the modified "state championship"?

Did any one go to Showtime on Saturday night- how was the turnout, what was the racing like and who is the modified “state champion”?

State Championship…

I can imagine you’re going to have a lot of different opinions about this race. I’m going to just tell you who won and leave it at that…

  1. Travis Roland
  2. Kyle Bookmiller
  3. Rick Coffin

Or maybe we could say Robert Yoho won…because as hard as he tried to manipulate the outcome (by basically changing the rules throughout the race), there was not a chance for many people to win…

LOL. Last years version of this race was the same mess. That time the 1 car clearly spun himself out yet magically got placed back up front. Dirt racing makes so much more sense. You stop, you go to the back.

Just about spot on…

Was there and…well, racin24dev pretty much nailed it.

Decided it had been long enough and ventured up to Sunshine (I will never call it SHOWTIME) to see what was happenin’.
And I saw I should have gone to Desoto.

Although…the night wasn’t without a little bit of enlightenment and education. The driver’s meeting was a pretty good clinic on how NOT to run a driver’s meeting. Abuse and belittling your racers before they even hit the track may not be the optimum plan. Although, after telling the teams there how happy you were to be able to save money on the purse by the poor showing of teams, it was a nice touch to let them know they were the best modified drivers in the WORLD.

Yeah, the WORLD.

One note.
It’s been over a year now. Someone go out and at least paint over the white stripes on the track from the toll booth deal. It’s an ugly scar that could be erased pretty easily.

Who knew?

He the #1 stopped on the front straight and got towed to the pits on the 99 lap. Everyone was told that the race would not end on the yellow and that there would be green white checkered. There was 2 green white checkered to end the race.

There was 16 cars that started and at the end there was only 1 lapped car and 11 or 12 cars on the lead lap.

Very close in qualifing and the race

Maybe OWM61 can explain what happened and why and how and all that? Or maybe he could listen to veterans like Nelson and realize they are the way they are and do what they do because they’ve been there and done that, got a t shirt and a hat and sold it at a yard sale before he bought his first race car.

Thank Osmosis…

I will say that I didn’t have the fastest car on Saturday night, but given the circumstances the outcome should have been different than it was…

I feel that it is a common rule throughout all of racing that the NEXT FLAG AFTER THE WHITE IS GOING TO BE THE CHECKERED; and Saturday night we were given the white flag 3 times, and what was supposed to be a 100 lap race was finished on lap 101.

In the drivers meeting, Robert Yoho himself told the drivers that he was “tired of making calls and having people b*tch at him for making bad calls so from now on all cars involved would be put in the rear, unless one driver tapped.” If I recall, there was only one time in which that happened (between myself (#21), and the 37). I did not agree with the call, but it was a rule and I had to live with it. There were many other occasions where Yoho started making those dang judgement calls again…And let’s be honest, his judgement was clearly partial to specific drivers.

Maybe he should try not to be his own Promoter/Announcer/Photographer/Concession boy/Track cleaner and he might be able to complete one of his positions with some precision. Don’t look for me to be back at Showtime…along with others from what I’ve heard.

I wasn’t racing Saturday for these reasons. I have gotten the short end of the stick on many calls out there. These tactics have been going on since the place re-opened and it sounds like they have continued, its a shame because the track is 5 minutes from my house. It should say something about the direction the track is heading when many drive right by it to head south. I know thats what I will continue to do.

How come you guys don’t run at New Smyrna? Too far?

Personally I just don’t have enough motor for New Smyrna.

You all should start running Citrus County Speedway

All i will say is that Yoho has had 4 or 5 races this year. The least amount he has paid the winner is $1000. I don’t know for sure but believe Desoto has also paid the mods well. Finally we are getting some good payouts. $600 to win is hard to break even. Hopefully you will join suit…Citrus is a awesome little track.
I am not Sticking up for anyone …But the money is way better than recent past.

I wasn’t sure how to put it without sounding like I was “complaining” but you did it well Doug…and that is the truth. Desoto on April 5th for me.

Citrus County

That is a great suggestion, because as I can see from the stands, even on nights where there are puddles all over the track, they get their pumps out and they get the show done. I’ve been to some that It was over a little past 9pm., all classes run and done. TBARA was spectacular there. It’s as good as any track I’ve ever been to, and it’s a 3 hr. drive just to get there.

Funny

I raced that night…Rain blew threw and toppled quick shades…they got the pump trucks out from the sponsors and cleared the lake in the infield…critter and crew kicked but that night.
