No SSS at Columbia or New Smyrna

According to their website they will not have a replacement race for the AA400, just going to call it a season after Mobile.
Maybe next season though they are talking about adding new tracks.

BTW- anyone hear or know anything more about racing at Columbia this year- or was that just another rumor?

Rats! That’s too bad. I’d still expect to see a bunch of SSS cars at the Gov. Cup. As far as racing at Lake City (Columbia, Ellisville) that came from Kim Brown who works for NSS which owns Lake City. I think they have to have at least one event there per year to keep it zoned as a speedway. She said they would be making an announcement.

Having an SSS race at Lake City would have been a terrible move. A money loser right off the bat.

NSS, on the other hand, would be a nice fit. Except for 1 thing… the Gov Cup has come a long way in recent years. It grows each year just the way it is. If the SSS were to come in, rules and procedures would probably somewhat different, chasing off some of the local talent.

I could see it bringing in 10-12 cars, but losing 15-20 in the process.

Smarter move would be an SSS season OPENING show on the last Saturday of Speedweeks.

ZERO conflicts with other events, full field, and a built-in large crowd on hand.

In hindsight, I think I agree with ya on this. Gov Cup has blossomed of late and a last minute change COULD screw it up. Having a big SLM race in Speedweeks would be a nice thing. I am curious what the NSS speedweeks schedule is gonna look like for 2015, I honestly don’t remember what was agreed to with the mods etc.

I guess I’m glad that the Gov. Cup isn’t going to be a SSS race- keep it like the Derby, a stand alone non points event.
I would rather watch guys race for the win than for points at the Gov. Cup.

Despite the naysayers I think if they would have had a SSS race at Columbia as a points race it would have been well supported.
IF they do run any races at Columbia this fall I’ll get down there and support the track.

I found this on Race22.com

The more I thought about it, I started to anticipate a 2nd South AL race for the finale. They have only had 1 super late model race this year.
