Jeff Gordon announced that 2015 will be his last full season in NASCAR. He’s had quite a career.
Kyle Larson will drive the 24 car, although the number may change.

I think Chase Elliott is already fitted for that seat, Old School. With NAPA backing I’d imagine also.
Rationally, I would agree with you, but… I have a good success rate with premonitions (in fact, crystal ball sez you will soon be in the winner’s circle…).

Junior retired a few years back, he just didn’t bother announcing it.
Elliott is already under contract with Hendrick. Has been since before last season started.

Richard Petty has also graciously offered to let Chase use the number 9 for that car if he & Mr Hendrick want it.
Seems like the most logical replacement for Gordon would have been Kyle Larson.The guy was a threat to win a couple of Cup races last season, he’s already a proven contender. I don’t even recall any major rookie errors by him.
Except I’m pretty sure Ganassi wasn’t about to give him up to Hendrick!
That also seemed logical to me.
Hendrick was the first to congratulate Larson after his first Nationwide win, and Gordo has given him advice regarding restarts, possibly more.
Additionally, both Mr. Hendrick and Jeff are sharp as a tack, and certainly know that if they don’t retain him, they will have to outrun him.
All that said, the lesson here is-- Check with Scott & Frasson, not Oldschool for your information!
Hendrick doesn’t seem to have any trouble getting who and what he wants. As a career decision, i’d pick driving for Hendrick over driving for Ganassi anytime.
While i was somewhat puzzled that larson didnt end up there to begin with, the Elliott thing was not much of a surprise or secret. I actually see larson ending up with stewart/haas when busch and/or danica inevitably flame out. Hell Rico might end up there as well.
One nice perk for Larson is the opportunities he has had to run the Rolex 24 for the top team in sports car racing, and winning this year, something he most likely wouldn’t have done with Hendrick.
A perk, for sure. I was pulling for that team to win, even though I prefer Chevvies, in particular prefer the Corvette body style, and normally aspirated V8s.
Speaking of which, Chip has Ford Sports cars, Chevy door-bangers, and Honda Indy cars.
Must be quite the salesman to get that all to fly.
All that said, I agree with Matt, I believe I would trade it all away for a ride in a Hendrick car.

Gordon’s umbrella girls, er wives, ain’t bad, though.
Actually, I first gained respect for Jeff when he did not let Sr “intimidate” him like most of the rest of the field did at the time.
That was back before he started shaving…
Gordon made the bump and run acceptable somehow, I guess when he gave it back to Big E. His wife is exceptionally, naturally, beautiful without makeup, I was blown away when I saw a pick of her without makeup.
Stewart, Harvick, Larsen, and Abreu would be a cool team!
