It’s a disease from which there is no cure and afflicts us all!
Back to the deal… 2008 hert all the track car count but now all of them are seeing a great increase in cars in florida so why is one track not having the groth and what do you think it takes to fix it.
rule changes only cost money.
In my opinon there has never been a bad rule if everyone had the same rules.
The fans want to see cars racing and that takes more than 8 of them in a class.
The cars want to compete in a fair race have a chance to win and have fun at the same time.
Handycaping left the day I did.
It is hard to do and the top 6 or 8 cars don’t like it. (they have to pass cars)
Teq with some common sence would help also.
lots of press for the lower class drivers will help them with sponsors.
The no soak rule on tires is a must to keep tire cost down
The pit gate increases have heart the smaller teams.
come on guys start thinking about what will work for the fan drivers and the track.
The rase the purse and lower the ticket price has been tried a lot with no or little outcome…
Yes the tire that hoosher came out with this year is a good start so what next.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the handicapping mention. EVERY track “up nawth” does it. Nobody does it here. I don’t buy that it’s hard to do. It’s third grade math. We used to use the “money won last 3 weeks” method. Miss a week and it’s a win plus $100. If you wanted to simplify it add your finishes last 3 weeks. Lowest number starts furthest back. Miss a week then 24 is your number for the week(s) you missed. Win a race and you can start no better than 5th. More racers want to race because you have a fair chance to win. Eventually “every dog has his day” by starting up front at some point. Additionally every car in front of you is statistically slower than you. Everyone gets to do some passing (think fun factor). For the fans this is the BIG upside. They get to see passing all through the field. This needs to be implemented everywhere asap. It’s the cheapest and easiest way to improve any show. If it’s too hard to calculate then bring in a 3rd grade math class to do it for you.
I Love a good handicap system. it makes it more exciting charge through the field and at least make it interesting. I dont understand how they line up the features at new smyrna (random draw maybe), but I feel the fast cars get to start up front every week.
Short tracks have been using handicapping of one sort or another for decades. It works, but it will be up to the tracks in Florida to implement it. The racers will fight it of course, but if racing is going to even survive here, much less grow, the the tracks are going to have to put it into effect and let the racers who don’t like it find something else to do. Because right now there aren’t many cars anyway, so i’d say it’s worth the gamble. For all the racers who leave, you just might be able to bring back some, or bring in some new ones.
And a very simple solution for fan entertainment, as well as good racing, is to totally invert every race according to points or qualifying. Not just the fastest 6, or drawing pills, or starting last week’s winner from the back, but all races totally inverted. This also has been done successfully all over the country for decades. No reason it won’t work here.
Most of the tracks did use handycaping in florida for years. I think we used it before they did in the north.
Most of the racers never did figure out how it worked.
East had the best system and we used there rules .
I did use it everyware that I worked
I was there in 92 and started it. I was there for 2 month and when I left they stoped.
Later I was there from 99 to 07 and we used it for a few years but it was gone agin when I left. Also if you won this week next week you started last . This gave the racer the idea he had a chance to win one now and then
Rogers sold some tickets coming from the rear even in a small field.
We had sportsman state championship race every year and every track would help promote the race. great fields. on year we had 54 cars at alburndale.
Any one rember 89 SLM for my first Hooters race at NSS?
Old school racing will still work if you can get the tracks and drivers on the same page.
How about USA racing from 1987 threw 1994 great car counts and all from the local tracks and most of the tracks worked together for the good of racing.
Now it dog eat dog running races on the same night and who can pay more. That is good for the driver. less cars to run aginst and a bigger pay off but the fans get screwed and stop coming…
Agin get your head out of the sand…

What did the “East” system do to set the handicap, Don? I’ve only seen the money-won-last-three-weeks system (Yankee style, lol). With $ penalties for missing weeks and getting dq’d.
This is a good idea to push. It’s an easy way to make racing sexier for the drivers and fans alike and best of all, it doesn’t cost anyone one red cent!
