If there was no advantage to this tube clip thats on the 7 car, then why did they have to have it? Why not put a stock clip back on it after Anderson knocked it off at New Smyrna? There is obviously an advantage to it. Theres a reason there has always been a rule, no camaro clips are allowed, so why allow a tube clip with the same geometry?
This chassis has been around a very long time but the problem is no one on asphalt is running a small metric frame. The majority are using a big impala clip with 1 or 2 ford lowers. The clip on Josh Todd’s car or the rf ford lower control arm is not why he’s winning races. They work on the car and give the kid credit he a pretty good shoe and did i mention they work on their car instead of whining on a message board. The AMF clip is a tube clip at a far price.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.
Ricky,
I cant believe that you are on here saying what you are saying
Majority are using 1 or 2 ford lowers ? maybe at NSS but at showtime , Citrus, A dale thats B.S. Isnt the front width rule wider at NSS than any other track ?
A metric clip is from a G.M. motor car from 1978 to 1989 if I am not mistaken. Caprice, Rear wheel drive caddy, Impala, station wagon…many more
A small metric frame would be a malibu, chevelle and yes the camaro
Again I will say this…I dont give a crap what Mr. Anderson is doing. Especially when tech guys dont even know one clip from the other…
Maybe this is the real reason we are all over the place with the rules. As for whining. Thats why im doing my homework pal, because i work harder than most.
Do you know why they are running the ford lowers and the camaro geometry ? I would say for one reason is lower roll center. It changes the pick up point measurements…
Old school or someone…Please go to johnson website …go to GM metric project Read the document…If you can post the document…I will try again…apparently someone didnt take the time to read it. Before he posted and talked crap…techman…hmmmph
Doug, I have a stock clip cut out of a full size metric car already I’d be willing to part with. Send me an email mark.ballew83@gmail.com
Merry Christmas everyone!
Mark,
That would be great. It would be way better for me to just go with factory. I am sending email now.
Don
And the tibe clip was added to the mod rules in 2004 at NSS and Desoto speedway.
There have been many of these cars in the last years so why the big push now.
Rember when no one wanted a spec engine then Anderson got one and it became a big deal.
Ricky said that there legal and that is that.
Get one or don’t it is ur call the teq man made his call and the ball is in ur cort…
don62
I think you were called out in a recent post as being one of the reasons we have the tube clips in our class.
Ricky,
Is the camaro geometry and the Metric geometry (impala) both legal where you tech ???
The measurements dam sure arent the same…
Doug,
#1, I would talk to Yoho.
#2, I would suggest continuing your research. There is a reason that folks are jiving around with the clips. If you can find the measurements, maybe build cardboard models of each and articulate.
I suspect it has to do with roll center and camber gain. No point in welding for a week just to be behind the curve, technology wise.
Maybe check out the NE mods and find out what they are running, and then get as close as you can in the junkyard.
Finally, I think I know where some full sized Impala clips may be.
Back in the day, Wayne Heckle ran one when the others ran the small metric stuff. We did not talk about it, but his car was fast…
Old school
I actually have a left hander fab clip…its a camaro with the slotted holes
This Johnson clip is a replica of big metric…one hole for the lower
The port city is a camaro geometry…slotted
By the way…Brad from left hander is talking about building the big metric replica’s because they cant supply stock anymore.
The ford lowers are no longer in their catalog ???
I spoke with G.M. from Bradenton and he is promoting the proper measurements ???
It just so happens that I have two ford lowers from the past…Tell me camaro geometry is legal and im on it…
Wish i could post that document from Johnson…proves that we let too much crap slide in our class…its easy to just follow suit.
Jimmy Cope is still doing it right. I would love to see someone ask his opinion…
It’s cool to hear people bitch about Anderson.
Hey did race mods years ago.
Does any remember how many he won?
All of them!!
He has lost a few this time so it gaining on him.
Lol
Don62
We bought a port city clip and try to place it on the impala jig. We found that if you cut it in half and add 1" to widen it out the fab clip will fit the jig. You then place washers on the lower points and weld them in place. You now have a fab clip that meets all the points of the Impala. This is fact you just have to have the lower pick up points.
Thanks 50
That could be an option form me. They say the center of the 5 scalloped holes. Keep in mind as you relocate those pick up points for roll center measurements everything changes…hence the ford lowers…
Here ya go
From the Johnson chassis website plain and simple
GM__METRIC_CHASSIS_PROGRAM.pdf (53.6 KB)
Howe and Port City
Just got a chance to look at the Port city and Howe websites. It seems that Port city only offers tube clips. Howe offers OEM replicas. One is a Impala Big Metric and the other is the chevelle. Two different animals.
So Mr. Brooks are they both legal at your track or is it one or the other ?
Critter, I know you are on here…whats A dale rule?
Rick Day, I know you are reading this…whats Showtime say ?
Ronnie Bacelo , What is Desoto’s decision ?
Funny…no reply
-
Desoto’s rules posted. No camaro…no ford lowers…body rule…shock claimer
-
Showtime rules posted. No camaro…no ford…body rule…shock claimer
-
A-dale. ??? maybe the same as Desoto because of six pac…rules not posted on website
-
NSS Rules posted. steel shock only…no bumps…nose width and body…50lbs. for fab clip…Clip dimensions pending. OEM lowers ??? 82" wide…4" wider than anywhere else …10" crank height 1" lower than others
-
Citrus…I hope they re open
-
Bronson…No website…facebook?..rules ?
Soooooooooooo…
Large Metric/Impala tube copy would be my guess.
Howe stuff has always been on or close to the money.
The only peeser will be if one builds a car to the rules and then others are allowed to run.
I guess that will be up to the tech inspectors to enforce…
Any mention of “adjustments” (slotted holes and etc)?
ps–NSS must like their 3 car field, and those 3 cars must like running at NSS.
Kind of a shame for those that like mods.
Bronson is running something called e mods(yes, those from NSS). When invited I told them the e mod motor blew up and I no longer have an e mod motor. Their answer… no problem, just put a 2 barrel carb on it.
Sooo me thinks I will be back at NSS and make it a 4 car field(sarcasm here of course).
2 new safety rules for NSS and the OWM. 1/8 inch steel plate between fuel cell and rear gear. Fuel shut off valve, automatic, to stop fuel flow if pump broken or other problems. Done, easy fix.
See youse there…
-JIM-
Thanks Jim
I seen they were running E mods. I think they also have the regular mods as well ?
And yes the car counts from the recent past meant that no one gets turned away…no matter what they are doing.
Howe Chassis
Just got off the phone with Howe chassis. They have one stock front clip that was unloaded this week. It would be March before i could actually get it. It looks like the northern boys are running out of these clips. He called it the rust belt. lol
But what they are also doing is giving the option for fabricated. Camaro and big GM metric. So again these are two different animals…just saying
Doug,
I may know where a big metric car is in a junkyard in N central fl.
You would have to separate the clip from the rest of the car. Let me know if you want me to check…
On the other hand, would bet the tube clip would be lighter, if a little less strong.
No worries
Thank you but I have several options now. I really just wanted to clarify for everyone including myself what was really going on and with the silence from the other end it is clear.
I simply want to race. And when I race against the next guy it would be nice if we had similar equipment. I can be just fine getting beat by someone out thinking, out working or simply out driving me. Hell ive beat myself more often than not.
Ive spoke to Yoho and Ronnie, Texted critter and the tracks I am interested in running well…the cats out of the bag and has been since the E B race.
I have friends with the fab clips and i truly hope it doesnt affect them. Its a shame that it was allowed and sold…
I gave yoho the Johnson tech paperwork and hopefully we get the tech guys to take the blinders off and stop catering to individuals.
Yoho has said that the wrong frame will not be raced at his track and he has a way to check for TC before and after the race in more than one way.
