wont be teching at showtime, A-dale or desoto for regular events. Unless i am missing something he is the tech man for NSS. I think he has his hand in this six pack thing but IDK how he can do anything but follow the track rules.

Doug, You can thank the tracks for the different rules and the resulting rules creep. I agree, it’s out of the control of the racers, car owners, and drivers. However, getting the big three ( racers, car owners, and drivers ) to agree is impossible as well.
Florida tracks needs to adapt a single set of rules, it would benefit everyone. However, I don’t ever see that happening, we are well past the point of no return.

I respectfully disagree with it being past the point. And I hope that I am right but who knows. The whole reason that I am posting all this crap is because I love racing. And I simply don’t want to bring a knife to a gun fight I said befor I like inginuity and I believe it helped build this sport…So dammit lets just line up with the same shit and race. Leave it to the driver how it unfolds.
I hope you are right too, but getting all the tracks on the same page with rules would be a monumental task.
Now if a successful traveling modified series was to come about with a good set of rules, the tracks may be forced to adapt the rules. Just saying
what tracks is not letting the ford lower control arm now ? I wasn’t going to say anything but I will say this modifieds don’t need to be changing to a fab clip yet so what I am reading seams like we have yet more rules changed on this class now . somebody said Desoto speedway is running American racer tires now and no lower ford control arm this true . mod class hasn’t been that great in years at any track this sure as hell isn’t going to help a thing who’s ideal is this ?
It seams it’s Doug’s ideal. That’s why he put all the pictures of the fabricated clip he’s building. LOL ! And poof, there goes a good thread. Just like that.
I would disagree–Modified racing has been good from it’s inception to current.
But if the rules and the money lead to small fields, then once again it is the racers looking for an edge and the tracks allowing it and eventually things spiral out of control.
And the fans? Most are oblivious until the fields drop. They don’t know why, they do not particularly care, they just find another activity for Saturday night.
And the few that say “we want the big bucks and the fast cars”–are just lounging in beach chairs toasting the USS titanic as it slowly sinks into the sea.
Mr. Miller may not always be right, but he is right on this one.
One set of rules= larger car count.
I just don’t know why Florida feels it has to be different than the rest of the country. Sure every state or area of the country has their own small changes, but the majority of the rules like front clips, wheel base and track width are the same. IMCA has had the same rules for a long time and most areas around the country except Florida have stayed very close to those rules. Let me say again, it is not fair to the 90 or 95% of modified owners that run a stock clip to have to run with fab clips that move all the mounting points around to get what they want. The few money guys that want to change the class into a high dollar class should be checked very closely for mounting points, carry 100# extra in front of flywheel. Stock clip 2400# and 58% left side, Fab clip 2500# and 56% left side, that should make it fair for all the guys running a true modifiesd as we know them
no racing has not been great in the past few years . a mod class with 5/8 mods is not working. so now we have mod cars running different tires and cars that are running the ford lower a arms cant race other tracks. sounds like a great plan to me. LMAO. POOF nothing changes SOS.
Modified Rules that WORK
Stock clip 2400 lbs
58% left side weight
Fabricated Clip 2500 lbs
56% left side weight
17" and 27" on lower bolt location minimum
3.5" lower cross member to center of front lower bolt
78" maximum with outside to outside of tire
Ford or GM lower control arms OKAY
I would like to see these rule changes and let see if the Fab clips are still dominating, if it will work to even the playing field lets give it a shot
short and mod
Short track,
I think this is kevin but anyway. We have had some really good car counts over here on the west coast this past season. True the tire thing is retarded. It was retarded when they went back to grooved after the first failure a few years back.A third tire is rediculous…Hoosier slicks will always be my vote.
The ford thing was a big thing because some people were using them to gain an advantage with the narrower fab clip. After all the research and thungs coming to light I believe that the ford lowers should be allowed if wanted but certain measurement must be enforced.
Mod owner,
WHOAOOOO fab clips have not been dominating. One particular car has been dominating that has a fab clip. That car also has a person who writes books doing the set up on it, well at least some of it. And yes im sure he got everything he could out of that clip.
Doug I do not want to take any thing away from Anderson or Josh.
BUT they were using TC at the Eddie race and we do not know for how long they had it. The track bought the box and it was checked by MSD, no bull on this one this is fact.
Also 2 races ago at Showtime a Fab clip won that race.

OMG, a fab clip won a race ? I would dare to bet stock clips win more races in Florida than fab clips. How much ya got ? LOL !
It would appear that there may be another workable solution close at hand.
It would appear that there may be a slight advantage to “New Smyrna Rules” over “Showtime Rules”.
So, New Smyrna changes nothing. Their rules, their cars. You want to run a Impala clip/showtime car, fine (by the way, bring plenty of motor. You will need it).
But at Showtime, the camaro/fab/84" track cars get extra weight. Yoho gets to add or subtract weight until he gets it right, including event by event.
Build the car for the track you are going to mostly run, and have a beer.

Or simply quit all this crying over lower pick up points, get a fresh diaper and go racing. LOL !
(not busting on you Doug, focused on the other kids here at KARNAC daycare)

2 races ago was Richie Smith (congrats Richie ) it sure looked stock to me…But anyway how do you know about that box. I will beat it out of yoho…lol

Agreed on the beer
Now I know how he got his name, easy to pass, he must of been easy to pass not understanding how important those mounting points are to handling of a race car. Just curious do you have any idea what a roll center or moment center is, how you find it, what it relates to as far as weight transfer??
If you read what I wrote before or maybe you didn’t comprehend. The pick up points can be relocated on all clips. Let me know if yours passes the pick up point when tech checks it.
I can guarentee you, you are not getting beat by a fab clip, it’s the other stuff you don’t get right.
