Richard Petty - Golden Gate Speedway

Finally found a victory lane photo of Richard Petty after the only NASCAR Grand National (Cup) race to be held at Golden Gate Speedway in Tampa on November 11, 1962 (It was actually for 1963 NASCAR GN points)… Photo is from Terry Hahn’s collection… Petty Enterprises had three cars in the race… Petty won with teammate Jim Paschal second and Maurice Petty finished 6th… 24 cars started… Rex White won the pole and led 41 laps… Pachal led one lap and Richard led the remaining 158… The crowd was a bit disappointed that most of the cars in the race were well-used racers from the '62 season… Maurice’s car did not even have a number on the driver’s door… Track owner Frank Dery replaced this race with the “Florida State Championship 200” the next year that morphed into the Governor’s Cup in 1965…

nice photo Dave.
