Photog Robert Wing stopped by Citrus County Speedway and took a few shots of the work going on there… The first photo shows absolutely the best thing that could ever happen… the old tower and concession stand are GONE! Hopefully to be replaced by something much better and up-to-date… One thing the new tower will need is tinted glass since it faces west and right into the setting sun… I was hoping this would happen and it is happening! For the race teams, check out the new pit slabs being poured… Lots of painting going on and new aluminum seating going up too… Once the track is re-paved it’ll be like a brand new facility… So good to see something really positive happening with short track racing in Florida!
Citrus County Speedway
Hot damn, I am excited about the NEW and IMPROVED Speedway…can’t wait…I have to sit on the pit side only because of the sun…(Oh well)…the one thing that would complete all this work is for them to hire the best announcer in the land…“Annc. Dave”…boy that would really complete the package…Yep, OSF said that…
Exciting times!
Do the westward-ho spectators get tinted glass too?
Will they be adding a Starbucks? How about a “safe zone” for social actions?
Enough non-sense. I love that track; either as a spectator or a driver, Citrus was a blast.
Okay, no nonsense, no problem.
I like the track also. It is almost a 2 hour drive.
My Dad’s house is on the way.
I attend occasionally, would attend more often if not for the sun. There have been others on Karnac that have expressed the same sentiment.
NSS, Auburndale, and Showtime have east-facing stands.
Have requested that spectators be “allowed” in the backstretch stands–even for a couple of bucks more–previously.
Perhaps the new Management will strongly consider being able to accommodate.
I can tell you that if things continue the way they are, the NEW Citrus County Speedway is going to be one of the premiere race tracks in the state. They’re spending a lot of money on improvements and they have some very good ideas for the future.

Auburndale stands face north to south
By jove, you are right. I had it remembered wrong.
Nonetheless, not east-to-west.
This is not to talk bad about anyone, just to show one main problem about local race tracks. Consider this thread. Attend occasionally. Seating facing wrong way others feel the same way. From other posts, “Not for sure what track I will be going to this week.” I hate this statement but it is so true, “back in the day.” Back in the day local people supported local tracks. There was no traveling series. Why was there no traveling series? because driver would race 2 to 3 times a week.
Yeah, that was Orlando Speedway in Taft for me. Closed in 1970, approximately.
But now, there are a limited number of Central Florida tracks and thankfully I am able to travel to all of them.
Regarding your local fan comment–It seems to me to be separate from the sun issue. That is, the westward stands facing the intense afternoon sun may limit local attendance as well as for those from out of town.
Incidentally, this is intended to be a help for the new Promoter–who I am thankful for.
It would seem that there could be armbands in three colors–stands, pits, and stands-on-both-sides.
It would be a little effort to keep an eye on, but not much more than currently, and hey, everyone everywhere would be paying to get in.
If the gross gate sales are higher that would seem to be a good thing…
hoooray
Those old decrepit widow maker stands are gone. I’m curious, only having lived here for the last seven years. Was there some point in time when the backstretch stands were the frontstretch stands and the pit area in a different location ? I have been there about a half dozen times and every time I was there I felt more and more like that configuration has been changed at some point.
re-paving
Are they re-paving the track??
Vince P.
Grinding it first to make it level, and then paving it.
I have been going to Citrus since the mid-70s and the track has been configured the same as it is today. The grandstand facing west can be brutal in the late afternoon but real die-hard race fans will sit through pretty much anything. Living only about a mile from the speedway, I can’t wait for the re-opening. I think they finally got the right person to run the track in my opinion. My hat’s off to Cameron Ray.
I see the VIP boxes are gone on the pit side. Will the decking remain for deck chairs to be used up there like some other tracks? Great place for spotters…

Jim, I stopped by last week and was told the deck where the old pit boxes were was going to be an outdoor patio with tables. Spotters are also able to use the deck. Many things are happening over there and they are dumping some serious coin into the place…new surface, aluminum bleachers, digital scoreboard, pit slabs, a PAVED pit road, score tower and concessions. Citrus will be the place to race once they have it open.
Other than OSW back when, Citrus is one of my favorite. This is a good thing reopening with a makeover.
For those of you who do facebook, the new web site for Citrus County Speedway is full of information. Not to mention photos.
Just remember to search for citruscountyspeedwayandtrack, otherwise you’ll end up at the old track’s site. They also have the new Citrus County Speedway logo posted.

Not a facebooker so the only information that I get is from the Citrus County Speedway website. I don’t see any information on the prices for admission. I know on the grandstand side it has been $13.00 for years. Is that going to change?

Found the rules also. MOD tires they list the F-53 and 750 Hoozier… ??
Can’t see using both, but maybe it will work out.
