my thoughts on drivers stepping back to run a lower class, track should have a rule of 20 percent of winnings goes to that class point fund. don’t like it ,don’t run it.
Somtimes a racer may think that he is better then his wallet, only to learn that he can not surport that class with his income. He must drop out or drop back down. Now if you are talking about a SLM or OWM driver in a Bomber or Street Stock, then you are right. They should also start in the rear evey race
Although I am more than tired of Cup drivers with Cup money mopping up the Xfinity class, I disagree.
This ain’t macrame, it’s racing. There are rules for the car, and that is it. They don’t give out ribbons, they give out well earned trophies.
Where would it end? Late model to Modified, or is it Modified to late model?
To Sportsman? How about a guy’s last years before retirement? How about those that race a few years past their retirement and are unaware?
How about those drivers that drive for owners, and after being out of a ride for six months, a “lesser class” owner calls.
In fact, are there lesser classes…? There are classes involving lesser money, but the guys have the same passion, and in many cases, the same skill (imo).
I have seen Ron McCreary run everything from Late Models to a demo derby in the same night. And I was glad every time he pulled onto the track.
“Don’t like it, don’t run it”–I will agree widdat if it applies to the entire field.
No offense gents, you are certainly entitled to your opinion.
Now, there are bounties, and sometimes a bonus is offered if a driver starts from the rear.
Those are fair game, as they are incentives, not penalties.
A ridiculous, exaggerated scenario to make the point: If you were a consistent top five Street Stock driver at Showtime, would you give a flying flapjack if Darrell Waltrip started a feature? Would you feel your skill was personally insulted if he “had” to start in the back to “give you a chance”?
I think it really depends on the situation. In the NASCAR ranks I have said before that I think the cup regulars should have a set limit of starts in xfinity and the truck series. Preferably around ten starts per season in either series or a combined fifteen. Not ten in each but seven in one eight in the other. I think the series themselves need it to put butts in the seats. On the local level I think The best thing is to keep the latemodel, modified and truck and sportsman guys limited to starts among those four divisions since they would more or less be considered to be the more professional divisions and really should leave any division below that to the guys that don’t have the experience level or funds to get to those four divisions. When you are racing a v8 bomber it really sucks to see a ten time feature winner in a late model or modified climbing in the car beside you especially if they roll in the pits with late model or modified type money invested into a car just to have their jollys . It’s fun when you finish better than them but damn near impossible to do. If you are a track owner you may like the name recognition it brings to a division that a lot of your fans may not even usually stick around to watch race but if it continues to happen you are jeopardizing your other regulars in that division to stay home or go somewhere else to race.
Racing against people that are “better then you” only makes you better!!
At all levels I have no problem with any driver in any class, as long as the rules are followed.

most drivers in lowest classes don't know how to set up cars, not much driving experience, then someone from upper class comes in and cleans their clock, takes the money. disappointing. hell no its not right
