Nobody comes here anymore?

I just saw a post in the thread “So sad” Dave Westerman "ancrdave? says:

No one posts much about anything on here anymore… Facebook has sort of taken over and that is sad… This forum used to be so much fun, but most of the members have either left or just don’t come here anymore… I don’t even post my race result stories anymore because only a handful of folks look at it…
Yes this board does not get the traffic and posts it used thanks to mostly the ease of social media but it is far from a “handful” of users. These are the live stats from last week on this messageboad.
So if you or anyone else does not post their results etc.here these are the eyes that do not see them.

Social Media

Rick, Bill Bryant (Bandit II Racing Videos) here. I didn’t know Wanye won the mod race at Yoho world till I looked at the Facebook page and then called him on Monday. This is where I come to see results from all the tracks and nothing. Rick Day doesn’t post, Scott, no weekly results from around the state, and 417 and Citrus, again Facebook. I have worked at Derby Lane for the past 9 years and I don’t get Saturday nights off, I’ve only been to 3 Eddie races with Wayne since.

Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and whatever else everyone uses from social media has taken over. At the dog track, every race, I gurantee 6 of the 8 people picking up their dog are staring at that stupid black box to see what Bob is doing, where Joe is going, and looking at the stupid ass duck lipped pic that Jen posted and not paying any attention to what their dog did in the race. I myself am not on any of them, never have been and never will be.

I love racing, always have, always will and miss going so much. As long as there are those sites, that’s all we’re gonna get, again so sad. Remember back in the day after racing at Desoto, we couldn’t wait to get home to see who won at the other tracks on here? Sorry for the rant, but that’s the way the world is today.

The Rock

I would suggest it is what it is.

Back in the day I penned a weekly Cup column for “Stock Car Review” that appeared on Jayski’s. It pretty much took an evening a week, and I did it for free.

I also used to provide “unofficial” race reports from time to time here.

Both were more time and trouble than just shooting the breeze, and eventually I just kind of…quit doing them.

Seemingly, those that provide results have decided they do not care at all if Joe Public gets them, or they post them on their own sites, or elsewhere. Then they are off fixing the PA system, or changing the rules again, or something.

But the folks in this sport are headstrong and kind of rebels (as a generalization). One thing I am sure of, from racing to the wife, people are highly resistant to doing anything because someone else says they “should”. Period.

Bandit, clearly you cannot get to the track on a regular basis, and you have my condolences on that, sir. The results can mostly be found here and there, and I guess that is the only way to get them, at least for now.

Otherwise, as mentioned, if one wants to see something on KARNAC, results or otherwise, the keyboard is right there…

So, we have about 4500 folks a week that do come here for the current insanity mostly based on racing fact, and that, imo, is to be celebrated.

ps–This week I got a David Rogers update on KARNAC, and am appreciative. He has now been added to the prayer list.

One problem I have with the site now is I can no longer upload any type of photo…

Unfortunately Dave the message board is antique technology and Scott and I do not have the resources to upgrade and if we did everything would be lost off the off the present board. You can still put a picture on by either the image has a website link and use the picture icon above or below in the manage attachments in the attach files box. I encourage tracks or their representatives to use this place to get their info out.

BTW this post has had over 160 views in a 24hr period.

In my opinion, this forum has become boring. After Jack passed, people were no longer able to post their opinions freely without the admin policing everyone?s views.
When someone posted something controversial it started a conversation with people being able to chime in, it was all of the responses that were entertaining. If you want people to return and get involved with the discussions, then back off the PC control and let people speak their minds like we used to.
Bring back the Tunaman, he could sure stir up some shit.

Been posting here for five years, and I have yet to see evidence of this.

IMO, “Stanky Tuna”–or his clones–have posted from time to time and add nothing to racing related content.

And I like to think the racing community can have debate without baseless insults for entertainment.

But regardless, the moderators have by and large stayed on the sidelines.

For the most part, racing is not being embraced by the younger generation. And the older generation–and it’s money–is slowly retiring.

Look at other boards if you like, but there are similar discussions in other forms of racing, as well as everything from slot cars to go carts. It is all on the decline.

It is what it is. But post anytime, I will look forward to your opinions.

I agree 100% with the above statement…as one of the “Old” posters, we used to have fun "Bickering’ with one an other… it was all in fun, entertaining and appreciated by Jack as his numbers kept climbing daily… (I had talked with him personally regarding same). Those days are gone - never to return…
Funny thing… it appears that the last five years is when it really got boring…

Views ?..back in the day people didn?t just view the page, they participated. You used to open the page and you had 50-70 active members on at a time, now it?s usually single digit numbers. I used go to the page as soon as I turned on the computer to see what everyone was saying, but honestly, with the current active postors, my interest level is fraction of what it used to be, obviously a lot of people feel the same way.

Counterpoint: “Too many people picked on Carol Wicks-- not joking . I always wished her a merry Christmas.”--Dave41

Apparently Dave didn’t think it was too funny, and probably not Carol. I know there were other things surrounding Desoto that folks found genuinely hurtful as well.

But hey, these are the good old days. None of us are getting any younger, and the sport is not particularly getting stronger.

I know some of the “current posters” personally and they are quality folks.

We debate, and we welcome debate.

If you got it, bring it. Everything else is either reminiscing, speculation, or sour grapes.

No posts = no interest = no board.

The technology Jack used to build this site is long gone now… the same he used to put together my Florida Racing History site… That site is still up and running but I now have no administrative privileges… I can no longer add new content to the site and Scott has no idea how to fix it other than to migrate everything to another site with current software - some 20,000 photos… I have no knowledge of computer web site design or construction and Scott doesn’t have the time to deal with it… If anyone out there wants to tackle a big project to help keep FL Racing history alive, contact me by e-mail - the site url is www.floridastockcars.com… I have several hundred “new” old photos to load on it but no way to do it right now…

Otherwise… why not let your friends know about this forum and also see if we can get some of the old-timers involved again…

my post

my post taken off. I get tired of seeing Old School taking over every post. at this point I don’t care if I get kicked off. 78 years old Dave41 ,Dave O’Steen

Ha–no good deed goes unpunished.

Trying to help your point, sir.

Nonetheless, am behind on a couple of projects, so I will lighten up for a while.

Post away, guys!

It’s all good.

The 15th thread is the first one with pics, more pictures would help. Maybe.

Keep up the good work Rick and Scott. I should be back with weekly results now. I am caught up some at work.

Here’s the answer right here.

No posts have been taken off.
