Seven divisions were scheduled to race at Citrus County Speedway Saturday night and 94 cars had registered by 4:30. They got an hour and a half of practice time in before severe weather moved in with lightning bolts flashing all around the speedway and then a deluge of rain shut down the practice session. Management had anticipated waiting out the storm until 7:30 to see if it passed but it apparently just parked over Inverness dropping 2 to 3 inches of rain per hour and what few spectators were there ran for cover and stood in an inch or two of water unless they went to their cars.

Parking lots were pretty well flooded and the pit area was a quagmire. The races were called at 5:15 with a whole lot of soaking wet people who probably went home, dried out and watched the NASCAR NEXTEL race on tube.

It was a big disappointment for the Late Model division since they have not raced in a points race at Citrus since July 28th. This is their second rainout and there is no room in the schedule to make up the rained out races. The Super Late Models are not scheduled to run again until September 22nd. Currently Mike Bresnahan leads in the point race with 4 feature wins out of only 7 races this season. Herb Neumann Jr. is trailing Bresnahan by 13 point and is still looking for his first feature win. He has a 9 point lead over Daniel Webster who is also looking for his first trip to Victory Lane. Keith Zavrel trails Webster by six points with one feature win and the only other feature winner is defending champion Scott Grossenbacher who is just 1 point behind Zavrel to round out the top five. It?s a tight race but if you can?t race it literally sucks.

With only 11 weeks left in the regular season next Saturday night will feature the Open Wheel Modifieds, Mini Cup Cars, Figure 8?s, Sportsman, Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks and the V8 Thunder Stocks, weather permitting of course. TBARA Sprint cars return in two weeks along with the PBG Legends on September 8th. September will see five race nights.[/SIZE]
