Shan Smith Wins Big At Hendry County Speedway

Shan Smith and the SS Performance Enterprise race team arrived with a goal, to make sure when they left the track tonight they were the Central Sheds and Trailers Dirt Late Model Challenge Series 2007 Champions.

Shan started the first heat race in last position and had several fast cars ahead of him. With the drop of the green Shan made a bold move to the outside into turn one and showed everyone in attendance why he is nicknamed ?SHOWTIME?.

When the field excited turn 2 to hit the back straight Shan was leading the race in dominating fashion and driving away from the field only for the cars to be brought back into contention with several cautions.

The competitions chance at taking over the first position vanished at every drop of the green as Shan drove away leaving the field to battle for finish positions among there selves.

The dominating performance in the heat race served notice to everyone in attendance that the SS Performance Enterprise team were going to be on a mission in the feature. As everyone readied for the feature, lineup pills were pulled to determine the top 6 starting positions and as luck would have it Shan and the winner of the second heat Roger Crouse pulled pills 5 and 6.

With Roger in the 5th position and Shan in the 6th the 2 winners were starting as deep as they could have for the feature. As teams readied for the feature Shan and the crew made a few changes to the car and waited for there assault on the track!

At the drop of the green Shan dropped in behind the 5th place car until they got to the corner and went around the car taking 5th. He stayed there until they got to turns 3 and 4 when 2 cars got together and Shan went between them taking 3rd position.

Falling in behind the 3rd place car Shan was driving like a cat stalking it’s prey. As the first and second place cars were battling for position Shan was biding his time in the 30 lap race. When the chance presented itself Shan made his move and passed 2nd and 1st taking the lead on the 7th lap and drove away to a commanding lead in just a few laps.

Late caution flags brought the field back together and kept several cars from going a lap down but no one was able to mount a challenge for the top position and Shan went on to win the feature event in dominating fashion.

This win locked in Shan as the Central Sheds and Trailers Late Model Challenge Series 2007 Champion. Also notable is the seasons statistics: 6 Feature wins, 24 top 10 finishes, 14 top 5 finishes and an average of a 7th place finish out of 28 races on tracks all over the south eastern USA.
