What Was The REAL Reason?

I have a question for everyone to ponder. We all know what happened at Desoto on Friday night. There may be huge variations in the stories, but the bottom line is that the ASA left. And after all of the dust has settled somewhat, the lingering question is why?

According to the latest statements from the ASA, the reason was a disagreement between the ASA and the track management. According to other sources, the reason for leaving was the altercation between the track owner and a female ASA official. Either way, this seems to be the first time anything like this has happened in Florida, and none of the above seems severe enough to warrant canceling the race and leaving town.

As far as the altercation goes, an assault was alleged and was investigated fully by the authorities. After conducting many interviews and taking statements from many witnesses, the authorities decided that an arrest was not warranted, so I have to believe that any “assault” could not have been severe enough to cause the ASA to pack up and leave, at least not on it’s own.

On the other side of the coin, what sort of disagreement could have evolved to the point that the ASA would leave? Disagreements happen all of the time between visiting series officials and track owners, and sometimes yelling cursing, and name calling, are involved. According to my information, a pay reduction had already been negotiated and accepted by all parties because only 20 cars had shown up, so that could not be it. If the ASA and the track were not in agreement about something beforehand, then why did the ASA show up inthe first place? Would there not have been a signed contract between the track and the series stating what was what?

Again, the whole thing sounds very illogical to me and I am looking for answers that better explain why the ASA packed up and left town. The ASA obviously is not offering honest answers, and the track is totally silent on the whole situation. Maybe none of us will get any answers until the lawyers get involved, but I would like to know before all of that plays itself out.

So I suppose this is an open invitation for everyone to speculate about what really went on that none of us were privy to. Does anyone have any theories?

Wow 190 read what you have said but not one wants to say anything? I for one was not there nor have an opinion on it. But i am surprised to see no one has anything to respond to such a well thought out post. B J you are a fabulous writer…i enjoy reading everything you have to say. Thank you

Why do you care?

BJ you may be a good writter, but I do not understand why you even stuck your nose in this topic. ASA has nothing to do with you, I don’t even think you have been in attendance to even 1 ASA race yet…so please save your writting for your Ocala/Dirt topics that might actually pertain to you. I can honestly say that you haven’t done a thing positive for Florida ashpalt racing yet to date.

Don’t listen to her BJ! You MUST be doing something right to get a nasty response like that.

Keep up the good work

BJ

Yea BJ… keep on doin what ya do… some pep’s just like to hear themselves talk… you are doing a great job and like so many others, I enjoy your writings.

I finally got my answer to the “Race I Missed” Sat, and satisfied with info received. Like I said in earlier post… until I got confirmed info… it was all hear-say… I trust my source 1000%.

Looks like ASA gonna make a statement tonight… however, one must remember, there is always (at least) two sides to every story.

Again, BJ, keep doin what ya doin…

in all due respect your statement to BJ is one of the problems with Short Track Racing in the south. BJ is VERY involved as are many of us in the media. ASA is racing and what happens in racing is everyones business.
we are all curious why ASA left. i do not feel any of us have a right to comment on the events as we were not there, but we do have the right to care and to ask.
people like Jane, BJ, Jack, Bill, Rick, and many many others write because they are trying to relate news to people who would otherwise not know whats going on. trust me…it isnt for $$$$$$$$$$$… we would all starve to death if it was. it is the love of this sport…
i know this is a very sensitive issue…no one wins! the fans, the drivers, the track owner, the ASA series. what a tragedy and black mark against florida short track racing.
i HAVE been to an ASA race. i have been to just about every major late model race in this state…and i will not argue about what happened at desoto because i am unarmed at this point and my words would be redundant like most of the other posts regarding the incident.
BJ…keep up the stories… at least it shows you care!

I am not saying it’s not his position not to care or want to know, but how many more posts need to be made about Desoto than are already up. I am also saying that he has pretty much helped turn Ocala into nothing since he’s been there, and I hate to see him start trying to ruin a good series by talking about the bad things and rumors instead of using his great skills on the Florida drivers that he could have been giving attention with it instead! I’m sick of hearing all of his negative comments on Florida racing on ashpalt, sounds like he needs to be a dirt track announcer if he is not happy with what he is witnessing every week at Ocala instead of trying to make it seem like that’s what Ocala should become.

I just really want someone to point out why he should be writting about something that:
A. Doesn’t concern him one bit
B. Doesn’t know the facts
C. Make’s Ocala look dumb because he lists his title as Track Announcer

Sounds like you need to work out your problems with BJ in private. Oh wait, you’re one of those anonymous posters who hides behind a pseudonym.

Sorry, forget I asked that. It should only be asked of a person with integrity and courage.

Good post John…Racerchick1 needs to add three letters to her post"JMO"
(just my opinion). Which is what BJ is doing with his stories and comments.
I’ve known BJ for a long time and he tends to try and state both sides on everything. I enjoy his comments, and sometime I even understand them…LOL.
Keep up the good work BJ…and racerchick1, the sanitary napkin goes “sticky side DOWN”…JMO:sprachlos020::sprachlos020:
