V8 StockCar 2007 V8 GTA Champ: Jay Marshall

“Without a doubt, He is one of the most naturally talented road racing driver students I have ever coached, and I have coached a few over the last 25 years.” So said Squeak Kennedy, the thirty year racing veteran of SCCA, IMSA Camel GT, and Grand Am of his pupil, Jay Marshall.

Marshall in his first full year of road racing had a season most newcomers can only dream about. Jay won three times, finished on the podium in a host of others and took home the class championship. His season culminated with a fine secnd place showing at the American Road Race of Champions at Road Atlanta, a track he had never seen before and which is widely accepted as one of the toughtest road courses anywhere.

Marshall’s #00 Monte Carlo was prepped by oval track star, Mike Cope, and was powered by a small block CHEVY LS1 built by SCHWANKE RACING ENGINES. Marshall’s HOOSIER TIRE shod stock car seemed to have the perfect blend of handling, braking and power.

The competition in the V8 GTA class was tough right from the beginning in 2007 and by years end there were more than a dozen cars who could challenge for the win. Marshall promises to be back in 2008 to defend his title.

Jay is the owner and operator of Cheyenne Paving Inc, He resides in Brooksville, Florida with wife Crystal and daughters Carly and Cheyenne.
